Re: Schematic using ITE 8995E or Datasheet for IT 8995E ?
Total newbie question, I want to learn what each register does, or rather which registers are responsible for fan control. I don't know how to read datasheets, is register documentation even documented in these files? If not, where can I find such a document?
I have been spending many hours the past few weeks trying to manually(through literally writing into EC registers)control my laptop's fan speed with a program called NBFC (along with RW Everything that can monitor EC registers) that literally reads from or writes into EC registers. I discovered 3-4 temperature holding registers (compared the held value with what HWMonitor shown me, they had same values HWMonitor shown in Celsius) and a register that adjust(?) fan speed, increasing RPM as I adjust its value closer to 8 on the scale of 0-8.
So I make NBFC write 99 (the values are in Celsius) into temp registers, and 8 to that fan control(?) register—so that fan speeds up as much as it can—and it goes well for a while, reaching 4200 RPM(Max I seen was 4400, I read these values through HWMonitor) but it drops to ~3800 shortly after(and normally fans stay ON AVERAGE around 3800 even when the laptop is 98°C). My suspicion is that there is another set of registers that modulate fan speed but I couldn't find such a register yet. I'm a 2nd grade computer science/engineering student but I don't know much of anything about hardware, can someone help? Even small clues are more than welcome at this point.
I am losing %30 performance of my laptop (on max performance power plan) due to thermal throttle(I just changed my thermal paste with an original arctic mx4) and it's infuriating to waste so much performance just because Asus didn't bother to put a fan control software for my device that I paid for
