    APC Smart-UPS 1000 (SUA1000) battery recommendation

I need to replace the original 'RBC6' battery in my APC Smart-UPS 1000 (SUA1000) unit.

What brand/model batteries do you recommend?

I understand there are many cheap poorly made choices.

On two ends of the cost spectrum I'm currently looking at:

    Powersonic PS-12120
    http://www.power-sonic.com/index.php?id=31&gr_id=40

    American Battery Co
    http://www.americanbatterycompany.co...s/apc/rbc6.htm

I've found the Powersonic available very inexpensively.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...F8&me=&seller=

The American Battery models have a two year warranty and I gather are good quality however I suppose if I got a year out of the Powersonic I'd be happy.

    Thanks for any comments

Powersonic's a decent brand. Been around forever.

Warranty doesn't buy you much unless you buy local from a dealer. You have to ship them back for warranty and after 3 months or so, it's pro-rated. Nor do they credit your shipping out or back, so...

Expect about 2 years in that UPS and no more than 3. Plan accordingly. (About $3 a month)

Just got another Back Ups XS 900 this week 36 bucks shipped.

Another set of dead Vision brand batteries to go to the recycler. APC seems to use this brand often and they're pure crap.

I've had Long and CSB brand batts from 05 in some 500VA APCs I use for backing up small electronic devices here and there that still held a charge and functioned on the inverter. Albeit I'm sure with less runtime which I never measured. I replaced them recently.

I've used Gruber and they're good too about 36 bucks for two 7ah batts shipped. Universal Battery co batts are good ones I've used as well.

I use Universals 3 stage charger to fully charge the batts before installing them into the UPS so their rate of charge is equal.

Powersonic I haven't used yet but I'd be inclined to give them a try if I found them at the right price.

Panasonic makes good batts too but they are way too expensive for me.

Be sure to click the replaced battery icon in Powerchute so that the battery replacement date is updated in the UPSs EEPROM. That way under technical data you can keep track of when to replace the battery.

I was expecting about 3 years before replacement in my Backups UPSs 800-900 VA units. Am I overestimating here or is two years a safer bet?

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Two is a safer bet, especially if you are in an area of higher brownouts or blackouts. It's similar to routine car maintenance. If you keep tucking away the few dollars every week or month and when it comes time, there's no surprise and you're financially prepared.

It's when 3 out of 4 ABS sensors go tits up at $138 each, at the same time, that twists my nads.
