Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏

    Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the replacement and tested these same caps on the underside of the board and I'm finding these same caps are also shorting to ground on both sides.

Help me understand… is this not a problem? Is this replacement also bad? (From eBay) is there a case where caps are supposed to have both sides with continuity to ground? I tested these before installing the replacement board.

After installing the replacement the TV gave me a 5 blink code again. After this it now just alternates white and red blinks. Screen doesn't turn on anymore. Also wondering if this other board needs to be firmware updated along with the rest of the TV?

I know the screen could be bad and ruin any new Tcon that's installed but I'm also wondering if I got a bad Tcon from eBay with shorted caps?

Looking for some clarity/direction here. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Hello Daren, a low pass filter could have inductor coils to ground on both sides, can you locate a schematic for the board? I am learning to diagnose t-cons, will you tell me what voltages and waveforms to expect on the inputs and outputs of the board?

Hi. Did you find the solution? My Z8H 75" got the exact same issue today. I was playing and suddenly white screen. I must tell you that after the most recent update, maybe about 1-3 months ago, the TV started behaving weirdly. It was very slow on loading the menu and apps and generally overall slow while switching in between menus. and today this happens..I found this 1 person with a similar issue https://www.reddit.com/r/TVRepair/co...on_left_snowy/

Edit: now the tv blinks 5 red lights and no screen.

Start new thread, give pictures. Can you use multimeter and take back off? Is there vertical lines on yours also or just fully white. Blink code?

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I literally had the exact same experience this week with my 2020 Sony Z8H 75 inch TV. I mean exact same screen as prior posts here. Mine went from showing the screen with the two black bars to the no screen with 5 red blinking lights. If I've broken forum rules by posting my apologies but would be super interested if Jingasharo feels comfortable sharing what the fix is? Thanks

Your fine, it was probably the TCON board since 5 blink indicates that generally. But let's see if he answers

Hi Guys, It was issue with the "address board". Look at the first pic uploaded by OP. You'll see the 2 chips on at the bottom which are part of the panel, to which the ribbon cable and tcon board are attached to. I think thats where the issue is. Other than that, Rest of the boards on the TV were completely fine, including the Tcon Board. Click image for larger version

Thank you so much for getting back regarding your issue! I really appreciate it. I have read the address boards are attached to the panel so I'm assuming entire panel replacement or replace defective chips? Thank you again for following up with photo, very helpful. Have a terrific holiday and be well.

yes only fix the addres board. Fix the components on it. the panel does not need to be replaced. that would be almost the price of the tv LOL.

Appreciate feedback, but just saying components need to be replaced isn't extremely helpful. Can you find out what. Needed addressing?

I have pointed to the right component. A good tech should be able to figure out the rest.

Thank you Jingasharo for your reply. Appreciate your photo as this is the closest I've come to locating the issue. Thanks again and be well. I will follow up if I learn anything with more specificity.

So post clear focused pictures of the address boards, if a person can't post a good picture then it's not likely they can fix electronics.

Hello Jingasharo, I realize you have been kind enough to respond to my inquiry but I wanted to ask another question. Did your TV repair have same two black lines as my tv and other OP? Second question is can you give a range for repair $$? Reason for asking is pretty good TV repair guy told me it's 90% a defective display panel. I've seen over 20 of these same TV's online in the States with same exact issue. I'm guessing this is a complex repair as this TV guy wanted nothing to do with it. Regardless thank you to all of you who took the time to respond. I will absolutely share. All the best!
