philips 55pfl5907/f7 flashes and goes black

Hi Guys I have a philips 55pfl5907/f7 Backlight flashes and then goes black Protection Mode I assume. This set has a LED Driver board and is Edge lit (Only 2 light strips). I put my LED checker on the connection and get 103v on 7 of the segments and 112v on the 8th segment. Obviously theres an LED out on that segment but still lights up.

Could such a small voltage difference cause the set to go into 'protection Mode'?

    Thanks in advance
    Will

Does your LED tester have current adjustment? The difference may be more significant at higher current around 100mA

I mean both sides should be the same. So there's a LED problem most likely. I would say yes it's going int "protection mode"

Does the set turn off after that? Or can you still see a picture with flashlight afterwards?

Didn't know Philips had edge lit and never worked on a edge lit Philips but you know it's definitely part of your problem because voltages on each side different

Thanks alfatv and EazyBone. I went ahead and bought 2 new LED strips. Hopefully that will fix the problem, if not it still had a light out that needed replacing.

EazyBone, Ya this is the first Edgelit Philips model I have seen myself. I tried to do the flashlight test but gave up. I only have one eye and the other is failing Lets hope I can get it back together without breaking the LCD

I suggest suction cups. Undue the panel ribbons while the screen is face up and the ribbons slightly over an edge then bring them up and tape them. If you undue the ribbons and flip the panel you have a chance to tear them. Also slowly lift the panel and make sure it's not taped down. Sometimes they tape the whole screen down, sometimes they put tape just for 6 inches in the middle top. So when lifting the screen you don't try and pull it off with the tape, run a business card through there gently and firmly to release. Hopefully you don't have any tape to deal with. Make sure you watch a shop jimmy film on how to take screen off. Once the screen is off the rest isn't that fragile. Also when you do edgelit stuff, make sure you test the lights before you put it back together. It's a pain in the ass if you set the diffuser wrong or a clip isn't fully down it'll create bright spots etc. so put diffuser in, put the first set of clips around the diffuser on so it stays, plug it in and check if everything is even. Good luck
