    42lc55

I got a LG LCD tv that I've had for about 3 years maybe more. Recently, I heard a loud popping sound from the speakers and and a slightly fuzzy picture, but now the picture won't even come on at all. There is power going into the tv because the green light is on but there is no picture, I can't even press the buttons on the remote to open the menu or anything. I usually leave the tv on overnight so it may have overheated or something. I've heard a lot of people talking about replacing the caps. Is this the problem?

        Re: 42lc55

It's bad capacitors - same with the 42LC46 series - and is an easy fix. Replace the 35V or 50V capacitor on the board (filters power for the audio) as well as the four 2200u 10V.

I picked up a 42LC46 from the local dump and fixed it. Had similar symptoms - wouldn't power up from standby or intermittent power up after left alone for 15-45 minutes.

I saw the response but decided that I would help anyway. One more TV saved from landfill is another victory, howsoever gained...

I see you point. How do you get on with picking them up? I would imagine they are against people taking things away?

I buy them and the guys at the local tip keep the money, although it is all on the record (signed book) so maybe they don't?!

Rude and sarcastic, maybe, maybe. The response you received PRICELESS! At least you were upfront and honest.
