    Vizio M261VP blinking power light.

A friend of mine brought me this TV, saying it wont display anything on the screen. Rightly enough, when i turn it on, i get nothing, no flash of light, no OSD menus. The only thing i did notice is that the power light blinks on and off for around 30 seconds and then stays off. Does anyone have access to a service manual for this model ? Before i look deeper into the PCB im just wondering if this is a known defect, firmware update etc. might save me some time.

I took a quick look inside for any obvious visual flaws on the PCB, but nothing stands out, all caps are flush, no residue or marks around the base of any components.

This is the PCB part. Seems as though everything is combined into this one board.

Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

Well, that's the main board. There should be a power board as well. You want to check the caps and the output voltages of that power board. Posting a picture here would help others help you with this problem as well.

This is the mainboard and the power board. The DC input is visible at the bottom right section of the PCB. :/

If you connect a source and flick through inputs can you hear audio?

There should be another small board for the LED backlights (it may be part of T-CON). Can we see the pictures of the whole back side of the TV?

We really need a good clear picture of YOUR boards
please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It will be useful if you can say a bit about yourself - skills tools etc. Do you have a multimeter.

We have not seen the pictures we requested yet, we cannot guess what you have since we do not have the TV in front of us to troubleshoot the problems.

Re: Vizio M261VP blinking power light.

I emailed tech support at Vizio. they suggested I unplug it and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Doing this, it came back to life - sort of.
the sound is back, the controls work, change channels, adjust volume, etc. It has no picture. At a sharp angle, you can see the image is there but has no back lighting.
That's where I am so far.

I have the same model M261VP. The tv just wouldn't turn on one day and shows no signs of life. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Attached is a picture of the board.

The power supply is external, A/C to DC adapter, LED driver is on the main board

OK, thanks, I see the LED connector on the top right of the board.
There are many voltage regalator and switch power supplies ( the round inductors I.E. 100, 220, 4R7, 2R2 labels on top) on that main board. There are at least two fuses close to the DC input jack. The Adapter is putting out voltage?

Re: Vizio M261VP blinking power light.

I also have this same model with the exact same symptom. When I press the power button, the power light flashes for 30 seconds, then the set turns off. For a short period of time, multiple power cycles would eventually turn the set on, but that doesn't work anymore. The screen stays dark, and I don't see any image on the screen.

Instead of starting a new thread, has anyone (or even the original poster) figured out what is causing this?

What I have done so far:

1/ Did the full power cycle reset (pull plug, hold in power button etc) - No fix

2/ Removed the main board and inspected for obvious damage (swollen caps, blown components etc). Reseated all connectors - Nothing found.

3/ Discharged all capacitors, then in circuit tested them using a "Blue ESR" tester. - All caps appear good.

4/ Checked the external power supply - Voltage checked good.

From reading this thread, I don't see what could be the cause of the flashing power light (except the obvious power issue). A schematic would help me trace the problem, but google has let me down. Does anyone have any other suggestions of where I should concentrate my attention?

In my case components in the power supply that powers the led back light shorted. They lit 4, 21 led series circuits, requiring about 63v dc each. 84 led's total. I hacked the led strip to run off the tv sets 19v dc power supply.

                                    Thanks for the added information.

My Vizio was able to turn on successfully a number of times last night during my testing. I did not do anything specifically to cause the set to turn on, except obviously plug it in and push the power button. I was in the process of measuring the voltages on the various components.

                                    What I found was this:

U8: The power mosfet component mentioned previously as 540N had a voltage at the upper mounting tab and clipped center pin of 19.30V when the set did NOT turn on (just flashing power light)

When the set did turn on, the voltage jumped to a bit over 60V an both locations. I forgot to write the exact value down.

I wasn't able to figure out where the +60V originates from, but I suspect that is why my set isn't turning on correctly ( 60V not being generated somewhere on the main board for the LED power circuit).

I still don't know why the power light is flashing (feedback that the power circuit failed?).

I did tear the set apart and inspect the plug on the LED array. It looked ok, and not in need of repair. The main board end of the LED ribbon cable had one tracer that was damaged for the last 1/8". I slightly trimmed the end and reseated in the connector.

                                    Still no good.
