    Possible Polaroid TLX-04244B Purchase....

    The lady told me:

"My husband turned it on one day and then i think the electric socket shorted. The blue light turns on when you turn the tv on but the screen is just black, that same week our PS3 died that was plugged into the same outlet."

She also claimed that the sound was still there, and that she has the original
    remote and the power cord.

    We agreed to $10.

I'm thinking that the +24V going to the inverter has died out, or perhaps
a fuse on the inverter has opened.

    What do you guys think?

Give her 5 bucks for the Ps3.

$10 ain't bad. I struggle to get TVs for 4x that.

How about FREE? Haha! She just gave it to me
        to pick up!

Spent about $2 in gas so far.......

But there doesn't seem to be any sound, just the blinking
blue LED, and no picture at all (even when I hold a bright
flashlight to the screen, I cannot see anything).

So my problem is a bit different than the other threads
        on this same model.

Thanks for any advice.....I'm gonna check voltages.

Ok, the +24V is there, as is the +12V and +5V.

The "STB" was +3.8V, which is a bit over 3.3, but
          might be ok.

"APWM" going to the main board was +4.5V, and the
          "BK_ON" was zero volts.

So it looks like the power supply may be good, although
I didn't check the high voltage inverter output, which
is integrated on the power supply, but I have a feeling
it's the main board that is bad.

Anyone have any experience with this model?

I'll suggest jumping BL ON to 5V via a resistor to see if it kicks the backlights on, this lets you rule out the power supply.

              Yes, good idea.

I used a 1k resistor, and the backlights turn on, so definitely
the power supply/inverter is good. I tried using the jumper
with the main still hooked up, but the main was pulling the
BK_ON side short to ground, so I had to disconnect the main
              board first.

I tried to do the fluorescent lamp trick of holding one conductor
to the inverter output, to see if the lamp lights, but when i
disconnected the real CCLFs, a red LED on the PS started
blinking, and there didn't appear to be a high voltage on the
              output.

              Ok, according to this site:

              http://www.justanswer.com/tv-repair/...lue-light.html

....I have a bad main board. Unfortunately, it's a gamble, because someone else replaced the main board, and while the picture came up, it was
              distorted badly:

              http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/54...olaroid-04244b

Since I got this set for free, I suppose I could gamble on the main
              board on Ebay......

That only happens if the panel setting is set incorrectly.
Make sure the main board panel setting matches what is installed. A good seller will list what panel board was pulled from.
Even better, sometimes it will let you change the setting.

Ok, I don't see any DIP switches on the main board, and I
don't know where to look for the panel setting.

                  Here are some pics:

                  http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

The is a marker, "DIP SMD" silkscreened on the board....dunno it that
                  is what you're talking about.

Panel setting is almost always in EEPROM, on main board.
There is the possibility of transplanting EEPROMs. Do ya feel lucky punk? Well, do ya?

Shit, well should I cancel my ebay order then?

It doesn't sound like a good gamble to me.....

Similar to what my bush was doing, except, blue light means its in standby, no light meant it was on, but had no lights or sound.

Had an ipos psu in it too.

                              much bigger your TV is!!

I spent $40 on the main board on Ebay, so about the same
                              as you.

kick ass!! i love this hobby/job!

Haha, no any (almost) free flat screen is a good one! I'm constantly on the prowl for TVs now lol. I won't be selling any until all of my kids and other close family members have nice TVs

My dad now has a 50" NEC plasma because of me, and he loves it. It looks frigging awesome. So I'm on the hunt for a 42" or 50" Panny plasma (I'd settle for NEC though!) for student dorms...

I love my panny plasma(50"). Had to pay retail for that one though! ($1000 three years ago)

But it'll probably last another 10 years or 20 years no problem... Their newer sets are quite unreliable though , older ones built like tanks.
