it looks like your inverter uses the tab system that the tabs click into the inverter posts. Look and see if you're getting dark mark on one of the tabs of the inverter also what I do is in a dark room I carefully wiggle the inverter and look for an arc off of one of the tabs that's usually tell tale sign that it's a bad connection to a lamp. of course TV has to be functional the time in order to see a bad connection

I have removed the board, but I haven't seen anything wrong there.Thanks for the idea anyway.

I have a kdl-40ex400 that blinks 6 times as well. The first time I fixed it all I had to do is update the firmware. http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-do...mdl=KDL40EX400

I sold the tv and a week later I received "the original" tv back. The tv would not turn on. the green led would light and nothing else. would not power down. The backlight would not turn on, voltages were everywhere except for tcon voltages and the BL on voltage. I unhooked the IR board and all of a sudden the tv turned on showed the sony logo and shut off, repeats 3 times. I plug the IR board back in and I see the red led blink 6 times.

I once again updated the firmware and I have a working tv again. The problem is as soon as the IR board is plugged back in the tv doesn't respond to turning on.

Try updating the firmware and see what happens.

I will try that. I am worried about looking for arcs considering that this may ruin the new board I installed so I guess I will try a firmware update and hope that works.

hi, i have a question: i also have a KDL40EX400 with the 6 red blinking lights... i managed to set the "self check" diagnose (display+ch5+vol- + turn on), here's the results:
