    Vizio E701i-A3 Vizio logo flashing then turns off

    Ok so here's the story. I was watching tv one day when all of a sudden I heard a pop from the back of the tv set and rushed to unplug the set. By this time the tv already had smoke coming out the back. It was not storming or inclement weather that day to cause a power surge to the best of my abilities. When I opened the tv up, I found that the three capacitors on the psu (highlighted in red) were all bulging and looked they had exploded. I replaced all of them right away and when I went to start up the tv after the "fix" it started just showing the flashing vizio logo as soon as power was applied and turning off. I have replaced both the motherboard and t-con board to only have the same symptoms and no fix. I'm wondering now if something else got smoked in the psu other than the ac filtering caps or maybe leds blew too? Or possible even the display is destroyed somehow? I really have no idea if anyone can help me out it would be very much appreciated. I can take pics of anything you guys need and I have a multi meter to test voltages and stuff.
    btw the three blue new caps are the ones I replaced obviously. The old ones were very much bulged and actually exploded there tops.

    That would look like the early-LED era, (2012) but I see blue caps that I suspect are high-voltage inverter caps, which are found with CCFL LCDs! SMH! (the little blue circular caps)

      I'm pretty sure this is a led tv and again just so I don't confuse anyone the picture with the 3 big caps highlighted in red are the one's I replaced. I never caught a picture of the three bulging and exploded caps so those are just to show what I replaced.

        Not the caps that I were talking about. It's when you see caps that are tiny blue ones, next to a printed triangle with an exclamation point. Those are possibly 1 kV+ caps!

        The ones that clearly failed, are the usual 450V type of switching PSUs.

          Storms such as lightning strikes will destroy everything connected to your house, AC, fridge etc so it's not a storm.

          Plug everything in as normal, test 12v like to main board and stby voltage. Are they steady and what's the numbers. Also what's the voltage on the caps you replaced.

          If all those caps blew on the PSU I would suspect the PSU is somehow the culprit and start here first.

          The symptoms you talk about though are super common main board failures. Vizio freeze logo and turn off has generally been a CPU issue. Buying a used board off eBay you will sometimes get defective stuff as well...

          Start with testing voltages on PSU if you have 12v, see if you have 12v on the fuse of the TCON as well. Report back. Give a closer pic of PSU legend also.


          Edit, if you get vizio logo without distortion, in my experience it seems the panel is likely okay, still a chance but probably good. And with many Vizio's that I have had if the backlights are bad you can take a flashlight to the screen and still see a picture. So maybe you have a picture and you think it's turning off.. when just the backlight is going out. There's a few things you can test and let us know

            thanks for response hear you go. I'm also getting 120 out the main fuse at both ends. I don't believe it's the motherboard as the first one I replaced it was a e-bay cheapo but I bought a shopjimmy board and both motherboards exhibited the same issue.

              Not concerned about the fuse I want to know if 3.3v is steady and 12v reg. What's the numbers

                    Thx didn't see pictures with voltage, change meter to DC and measure main caps.

                    Did you check with flashlight on screen? 3.3v getting on BL error pin, I can't remember if it's supposed to be 0 or 3.3.

                      Ha, so I just shined a flashlight on it and could faintly see the no signal on the screen. Then I clicked input and could see even more with the flashlight. So I feel like a dummy for not doing this test in the first place but would this mean bad leds? Also changed to dc and they're fluctuating but about 350v dc for those main caps. I really thought the hot side of the power supply was always ac ooops. Thanks again man. How should I continue? Should I tear it apart and look for bad leds? I'm familiar with changing out leds in these tv's. I also have a led tester as well.Thanks.

                          Hot side can be tested differently I've learned. Generally testing hot side you need hot ground and something else, but those.main caps can be tested DC.

                          No don't take apart the TV what you do is you take off the connector at the power board and then you stick the probes of the LED tester on the positive and negative part and they will light up and show a voltage across them you have to do it for each set if one of them reads short then it's your LEDs minimally

                          Also, welcome

                                Who checks this way, you want to burn the power supply (backlight driver...) of the TV by supplying power to the led out output, the connector must be disconnected from the board, and then supply power to the LEDs...

                                      Yes!! I said take off the connector, don't leave it connected! Do it again! If they all light up, you got a bad PSU most likely. The thing that blew up in the first place lol.

                                        If all the LEDs light up, I'm willing to bet PSU bad, something isn't giving current to LEDs.. I've had this happen on Vizio. !!
