    Help with Vizio E320-A0

    Hi there! I have a Vizio E320-A0 that I purchased from craigslist last night knowing it was broken. What happens is when I plug it in the white standby light comes on for about 10 seconds and then slowly turns off. But when you press the power button the tv doesn't turn on. I tested the power supply and it seems this TV only has a 24V power lead that goes directly to the main board and then uses regulators to drop it down to the necessary voltages for the rest of the main board. There are 3 main regulators that do not show any voltage until I press the power button. One tests at 3.2V, one at 1.5V and the last one at 1.2V. I get 5V at the lead going to the power button board so I can assume that I am getting standby voltage.
    I was unable to find a service manual for this tv and was wondering if anyone may have one or can point me in the right direction to figure out which component is the problem.

    picture of the boards will help, the two wires going to the LED backlight, are you getting any voltage?

      I'll post some pics soon. I am getting 24V at the backlight lead.

        Need to find out if the Inverter is also getting the BL_ON (INVR_ON/OFF, or ON/OFF) signal feeding it, and also DIM control signal.

          I don't mean to ask you to hold my hand...But I'm not sure how to do that. I've fixed a few Vizio's before that had bad regulators, but that's about as far as I've gone.

            Here are some pics of the P/S and the Main board. The caps in the pic of the small section with the part# sticker are not getting any voltage. The only one that is is the one closest to the regulator and that is 1.2V

              This is LED Backlights TV, the LED drivers are on the main board for this TV. So you are indicating you are getting 24V the 2-pn connector with Black and White wires to the socket on the LCD panel?
              There are more than one version of the boards in this TV.

                Yes. I am getting 24v to the two wires going to the panel.

                  does the power LED light up when you press the power button? Its should be around +40 volts on the LED wires (black & white). Can you measure this LED connection while powering up the TV, to monitor how high of a voltage you are getting?

                    The led does not light up when I turn the tv on and the voltage to the led at the panel stays at 24v. The only thing that changes when I hit the power button are the voltages at the regulators. Goes from 0v to 1.2-3.2 depending the the chip. No lights noises or anything else happens.

                      There are two mosfets that I assume are the led drivers. One has 24v at the drain but nothing on either of the other pins and the other has no volage at all. On or off.

                        This is not going to be easy, the problem is in the main board, I wonder if it has EEPROM problem.

                          I thought about that but couldn't find any firmware to flash. And even if I did I'm not sure how I would flash it if the processor isn't working.

                            are you feeling heat from the processor when the power is plug in? EEPROM problem maybe. One last thing I will do, is unplug the LED strip wire and try to power up the TV, this model is also known to have shorted out LED's

                              There is a small amount of heat coming from the processor when it's been on a bit. And I already tried unplugging the power to the leds and then powering on. Same thing.

                                Thanks for all your help! Since the mainboard was very cheap I decided to just buy a new one rather than figure out the many things that can be wrong with this one without having a service manual.
                                Hopefully this fixes the problem and I have a working TV soon.

                                  Looking at the Main board, it looks odd that all the bigger caps are raised up and crooked. Did the previous owner change the caps? I have had sets that the owners attemped repairs and the results usually are not pretty then they sell them. I hope the main board fixes it. Good Luck

                                    The caps are fine and have never been replaced. I received the new main board today and popped it in and everything is well. TV works great. Not sure what went wrong with the original but I couldn't find an eeprom for this TV so replacing it was just easier and cheaper for this TV. $28.00 for a mainboard is the way to go .

                                      When these eeproms go bad do they corrupt so that the symptoms can vary before they don't start at all ?

                                        Sorry to bring up an old post, but I have the exact same unit with the same problem.... did you replace the main board or just the power supply board?
