Samsung LN55c650l1fxza screen full of vertical lines

I am thinking of buying this set to repair. I didn't get a chance to remove the back, but when I pushed on the back around the hdmi connector the lines went away. When I cycled the tv off and on the lines came back. I am concerned that the panel may be bad. Could I have a few opinions?
thanks (I sent a couple pictures)

It looks to me like a defective panel. Small chance of main board, I guess, but not high.

I decided to take a chance with this tv. I placed a foam pad under the main board by the connector going to the t-con, and the lines cleared up. Bad solder joint on the connector or the big Ic next to it. I put the back on and its been working fine for several hours and several power cycles. This main board is hard to find (BN94-02620J).

I just fixed one of these, mine was a victim of a wall mount fall, ripped the coaxial bolt right off the mainboard causing the LVDS Cable connector to come loose and cause massive amounts of rainbow lines on the display. I did same thing you did but mine didn't last so I pulled it.

I just bought a new MB since the old one was beat pretty good, panel worked great once the new MB was in place.

I've fixed one of these real easy. If you can restore normal picture by lightly pressing the LVDS cable to the Main board side. You can bake the main module...Yes, actually BAKE it @ 300 for 8 minutes. this will cause a reflow. Important; Do not touch the board until it cools to near room temperature with oven door open. If you touch the board while the solder is still soft, you will ruin the board. John

I thought about trying a heat gun to reflow that area on the board. The set is still working with the foam pad under the board. I tried a board off ebay and it had the same exact problem as mine. Must be a common problem.

The board has plastic connectors which would be very easily destroyed by baking the board to reflow the solder. The solder does not melt until 325 degrees F. While in theory it is a good idea, in practice it is a dangerous solution.
I new main board can be found at Sears parts for about $85.00, currently.

I would be interested to know if your solution actually lasted.

Update on this tv. I took advantage of a special at Moduslink Pts and sent my main board for repair. I got it back yesterday, and the tv seems to be WORKING GREAT!!!

Just to clear this up, The plastic connectors will withstand more heat than an oven can give, I work with BGA devices and they can withstand 225c from my IR machine so an oven that can only reach 230c won't do a thing to them

I agree with you on the connectors, however the Scart connectors melt at a much lower temperature.
I was doing a reflow, using the oven just to heat up the board to about 120 before giving the chip a blast on the heat gun, but the scarts melted, and started to fold in on themselves.

Ah good to know, Never applied so much heat to a scrat connector before.
