What do you mean by the "power switch not activated"?

If you'd like me to test this again but with certain things unhooked, I'd be glad to give it a try. Assuming I cut the correct wire in the first place.

I mean, you all the boards connected together and then plug the TV into an AC outlet and look at the current draw without hitting the power switch on the TV or on the remote.

Ah, then yes. I never touched the power button on the tv or the remote while getting the reading. If you'd like, I can try the reading again, but this time I'll press the power button and see what happens. And maybe I'll try it again with the button board disconnected.

Update: just did the afore mentioned tests and I got the same results. It spikes around 2.10A. Hitting the power switch on the tv or the remote didn't seem to make a difference at all.

Also an interesting note: the floor lamp in my room, which I have connected to the same outlet as the tv, flickers faintly with each of those ticks. So I'm with you in assuming that it's drawing more power than it should be.

So what comes next? Judging by some further tests, it still spikes at 2.10A
I tried pressing the power button on the tv and the remote and I tried having the button board disconnected.

The only difference I noticed is when I was holding the power button down. While doing this, the reading seemed to spike at 1.7A or so.

Does this indicate that the main board has a flaw that causes it to draw more power than needed? And that's somehow preventing the tv from powering on?

I would say you do have to try new main board. 32" SAMSUNG with LED backlights is around $200 so I do not believe it is a good way to spend money on this one. You may make more money selling the boards.

Alright, so... Finding an exact replacement for BN41-00965B looks like it's gonna be pretty tough. Plus it'll run somewhere in the $70 range.

Just for clarification, is it possible to fix this thing? Or, given my total lack of skill in this area, would it just be better to consider it a lost cause?

I'm aware a newer (and better) tv of the same size would only be around $300. But paying $70 is a lot cheaper than $300.

Thanks for the follow-up on the repair, so how much is the replacement board?

The replacement board cost me $62 from TVpartsguy.com. Plus $9.99 for shipping. So, in the end it cost me $72 or so.

Was the only exact match I could find on the internet. Plugged the board in, plugged in the tv, single click and the standby LED light came right on. I pressed the power button, and it gave me the samsung chime and turned on.

Picture is fine as well. So yeah. All is good now
Thanks again for all of your help! Never would have figured this out without you guys!
