    LG PDP60R1 Plasma No Picture

Things started to to go south about 6 months ago where the TV would need to be turned on and off a number of time before the display would initialize. At first it was just one or two times at week. At the end it we were turning it on and off for 20 minutes before getting the display. Sound and all other functions seem to work fine just the faulty display.

I have taken the back off and checked voltages on the PSU and they all check out. No bad caps or other physical damage that I can see.

I looked on line for T-shooting manuals or schematics but came up empty. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can narrow this one down?

Have you checked sustain voltages? LGs usually have VSC and -Vy test points on the YSus, and they have VZB test points on the ZSus - can't see the panel label in your pics. You could also try pointing a hairdryer at various areas on either of those boards to see if a picture displays.

These appear to use the same parts: http://www.toms-service-manuals.com/...&Search=Submit

Re: LG PDP60R1 Plasma No Picture

      Capkid,

Thanks for your prompt and very helpful reply. These are indeed my boards and I was able to gather voltages. The YSus board Tested good with 180 and 150 Volts; however, the ZSus board ZBias tested at 15V when it should have been 105. If I run the meter on the ZBias and turn the unit on I do initial get 70V on the digital meter but then it shoots back to 15V. I would guess I would see an initial 100V if I had an analog meter.

Oh I ran a hair dryer on the ZSus board for 5 minutes but nothing changed with regards to the voltage or the display.

      Any next steps?

Perhaps worth running a panel self test on this to see if the main board is bad... Do you recall if the screen had the "priming glow" when faulty? (Slight glow to the black level that nearly all displays have.)

No glow. Jet black unless the display works.

So, the test that Tom mentioned is also referenced on the block diagram:

            (1) Disconnect LVDS cable that goes from the logic control board to the main board.
            (2) Apply a jumper across the auto gen points on the logic control boards (paper clip is an OK jumper).
            (3) Plug in and turn on the TV.

It's sounding like you're down to the control board or the ZSus being the culprit. The block diagram mentions another control board test:

                "To Test Control board:
Disconnect all connectors except the SMPS. When set turned on, observe Control board LED. If it's on, most likely Control board is OK.
If M5V is not present on P2 pins 1~4, jump STBY 5V from SMPS P813 Pin 13."

No LED. I actually had to look up on the diagram as I have never seen any lit led from the control board. Oh IC1 gets hot with just power attached. Prob about 130F.

Guessing this is not a component level replacement?

IC1, is that the large chip on the control board? Sounds bad to me.

It looks like ShopJimmy is out of stock. Hmm, either they don't stock many of these or this is a common failure. Try tristatemodule.com - very reputable.

Edit: It looks like they're out, also.

Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.

When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on...

Saved this beast from the landfill this weekend.
                              Manfactured July 2013 in Mexico.

I love working on plasma TVs.
Its been a while but I was lucky enough to find 2 this week.

The TV powers on and stays on but no picture. Havent checked for sound yet.
No bulging caps although the insides are pretty dusty and the boards are discolored from many years of high heat.
                              Will start troubleshooting tonight.

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                              Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                              First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                              Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

                              Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:

                              - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds

                              - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                              - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                              - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.
