    Panasonic TC-P42X3

    Kids were playing with the plugs on the power strip when the TV made a loud pop!

    I've identified what I think is the source of the pop sound. It looks like a blown component on, what my research shows as, the SN board/Y Sustain/Y Main.

    I've also seen the board referred to as: TNPA5311AC / TXNSN1PPUU / TNPA5311AE

    The only visible sign of failure is the component labeled D722. Problem is, I can't identify the component because it blew off all identifying markings.

    Can someone provide me with what this component is and its stats? It has to be cheaper to replace this single item, than to replace the whole board.

    So you could jump on to shopjimmy and have a look. appears to have a marking 72 or 73 and it'd be a Rohm product but how confident are you this is the only blown part? $19 for a whole board seems a good deal and even if you fix the old one, handy to have for when spares run out.

        Took your advice & ordered the board. It's installed, but didn't bring it back to life.

        Upon plugging it in, I just get 2 clicks followed shortly by a third click. The light on the front of the TV stays a steady red & pressing the power button changes nothing.

        I upon checking P6 on the Power Supply I get:
        P_M_ON = 3V
        S1 = 0
        S0 = 0
        SOS = 3
        STBY5V_ON = .05V
        STBY5V = 5
        F_STBY_ON = 3
        Everything else is 0

        What do I do next?

          Had to hold power button down to turn it off, then after pressing the power button again I got 14 blinks

            I looked at the service manual for that model and there is no 14 blinks. I think maybe your are getting 7 with a short pause and then 7 again would be my guess. I would definitely download the service manual as it has a lot of info on trouble shooting. I did not find the technical training guide but its probably the same as another model. There are some real pro's on this forum and I have learned a ton, but you should do some research in the manuals to know what to check. It could be as simple as you got a bad board.

              That would potentially suggest Vsus is shorted on either the SN or SS. Going back to the orignal photo that diode is part of the ERC which that top lead connects to the SS.

              I would say the SS failed and took out part of the SN now that you say it still will not turn on.

              I would not apply power anymore, grab the SS and check across SS11 Vsus to gnd and see if shorted or just probe the RJP30H2 transistors as I'd expect them shorted if it's shorting Vsus.

                Hooray - kind of... got the SS board in the mail today. Installed, and I finally have an image! However, i'm getting Horizontal lines as seen in the attached pic.

                Is this an SS board issue, since it's the x-sustain? Please direct me!

                The lines appear across all inputs that I can test. Even when there is no input & I'm in the menu the lines appear.

                  reseat the ribbon cables on the buffer boards that correspond with the lines.
                  Do this with tv OFF ! might have to do it 50 times to get it right,they can be a nightmare to get right. (I have 2 tv's sitting here that I'm reseating the ribbons on,5 attempts a day as I lose patients,lol)

                    Too right, I find it takes longer to get the ribbon connectors right than it does to repair the board , I dont know how they do this is the factory .??????

                      I thought the ribbons cables needs to be re-seated as well. I had no idea it's that painful to get it right. That's why I am newbie ; )
