    philips 50pfp5332d/37 keeps blowing fuse

I have a 50 in philips plasma 50pfp5332d/37 that recently made a click/pop sound and stopped working. It has no power,no led lights nothing. I took the back off and noticed a few capacitors bulging, but the fuse closest to the where the ac comes in on the power boards was blown. I changed it and as soon as I plugged it back into the wall the tv made a click sound and the fuse blew immediately. Put in another fuse and done the same thing. I unhooked all the other boards from the power board and tried it again and the fuse blew again. I have read it could be the bridge rectifier, but I don't know what that looks like or where it would be on the board. I can upload some pics if that would help. Would really like to see what the bridge rectifier looks like for this tv. sorry for my limited knowledge on this, thanks

Do you have a DMM and know how to check for S/C ?

All the bulging capacitors will require replacing too.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Also we need to know what Pus it needs with images, these Tv's use up to 3 different types of power supplies.

The capacitors that are bulged will need changing have you checked if all fuses are blown ?

just a rough idea how to test a bridge rectifier

This board has two bridge rectifiers fitted to the left hand heat sink (that them with four legs) just above the fuse that is blowing. when you have a dmm come back we can run though testing with you

There is no point in throwing fuses at it, they are blowing for a reason. You need to check the mains AC inout side for shorts then get back to us. Also every cap in the image I screen shotted MUST BE CHANGED as well as the 5V standby cap which I will also screen shot if not psu will fail again.

Strange power board these for a Samsung, with the mains supply only connected the board should show all small voltages and a solid green LED lit on daughter board, that flashes a fault code much like the BN44-00222A when its faulty.the Va + Vs come up when Vs on is made high from 5v

Yeah they do actually shut down the 5v and 12v rails after 10-20mins I modded fans into the same Tv with this Psu they were on for about that long after I put it into standby and it stopped the Vs rails. But if you press the power off button on the side the 5v goes low and the relay shuts off stopping every voltage rail apart from 5vstby. I do agree it is ood lol

No it wont, 50" uses more power and the 42" is not capable of supplying it and will probably just not even turn on.

Re: philips 50pfp5332d/37 keeps blowing fuse

I just repaired one of these exact TV sets.

I had to replace inrush limiting R4006 and R4007 with Large NTC Thermistors because the blowing fuses smoked the originals. The NTC Thermistors are better anyway.

Replace BOTH SAMWHA 450V 270uf with something similar or longer lasting. I had a SHORTED cap in mine causing it to blow fuses, the fuse located between the caps. I used Samsung 220uf 450V.

Replace the G-LUXON 250V 820uf with something longer lasting. The value (uf) doesn't have to match, just put something better in there. I used a Nichicon 250V 470uf.

On both of these replacements, the caps are taller and narrower so they will not be as close to the heatsinks, and makes the caps have longer life.

                                    Now Replace anything SAMXON!
All the little green and black low voltage SAMXON caps near and under the heatsink replace ALL of them with similar or better. Also replace the two black SAMXON caps 680uf, 100V. I used 470uf 100V Nichicon, lower ESR caps, they are slightly taller too.

Once you remove and replace all SAMWHA, G-LUXON and SAMXON caps your set will work, these are known issue parts on most PHILLIPS TV, just search this forum, it's well known.

First and last point massive FAIL there by decreasing the capacitance, expect it to FAIL very soon.

The 450V caps are only off by approximately 50uf, not enough to matter. The newer ones are further from the heatsink (taller and narrower) so they also run cooler than the old ones by not being cooked as badly from the heatsink. The 250V, 470 cap has a longer life, and lower ESR than the original junky 820uf, I measured. I usually don't go down on capacitance, I usually go higher, but certain places it is OK. There are other filter caps on the X and Y boards that filter the ripple from there, it doesn't have to be spot on with microfarads.

Another example is replacing a 1500uf CapXon with a 1000uf Rubycon, and it will be just fine. Another example replacing 680uf SAMXON with 470uf Nichicon or Rubycon is just fine.

The "Rating" of the cap means squat when its a junk brand. A lower rated higher quality cap will hold up fine. Lets not debate, this TV will be just fine.
