Sony KDL-40EX640 horizontal lines and double image

Wondering if this is a t-con issue or the panel is bad. I was considering ordering a new t-con board but from what I have read here horizontal lines indicate bad panel bonding tabs

The t-con sticker has LJ94-25057C as the model.

take a look at post #10 for pics of one i had. solution was some pressure at the top of the lcd where the little ribbon goes into the panel. hopefully yours is as simple or more-so.

Panel problem due to bad tab bonding.

there are some recent threads where by some have used a "well positioned piece of tape" that the tcon to panel cable connection to address similar issues... maybe.

There are two flat cables from the T-CON to the Panel. Disconnect one side at a time and see if you get half of the picture showing OK. If both sides show bad then your panel is bad and not repairable. If you get one side showing OK then perhaps we could explore the 'cut-off' method to repair your TV.

When i took apart the tv and disconected the t-con ribbon cables the left side was fine but looked more like an SD picture then HD, the right side was even worse then the pictures i put up.

When i removed part of the metal frame the only tabs i could find are on the bottom of the panel, are there more tabs on the sides?

One of those tab bonding on the bottom edge of the LCD panel? If that is the case, look for corrosion on the tab bonding board.
Any pictures of the tab bonding board?

The board is at the very bottom on the backside of the panel and there no corrosion on the board. I tried running my hand along it applying pressure but there was no change in the image. What is the cut-off method?

i believe cut off method is scotch tape trick on ribbons blocking off just the right amount of pin connections to correct the double image.

OK...so the LEFT side picture looks good?...then the LEFT cable looking from the back is where you want to use the stationery tape...if you post a close up focused picture of the T-CON Bd and another pic with the flat cable connector for both sides I MAY be able to give you a position for the stationery tape.

The left side still does have tiny horizontal lines but the picture looks ok. When i connect the right side i get the double picture but the bottom 1/8th of the screen looks normal and the picture is fine on that part of the screen with no horizontal or veritical lines.

OK.. Then you really do have a bad panel....sorry...not repairable.

you have nothing to lose trying the "tape block" thing. Some of the issue is that the tab driver (or equivalent) causes issues to the other components. By blocking those "bad components" via the tape, sometimes you might be able still get a working set out of it.

Alright I will try the cut off method and see if it helps I can live with the tiny horizontal black and white lines just not the double image. I will post some pics of the t-con as well.
I wonder what caused the problem in the first place, I couldn't find many issues with sonys and horizontal lines.

Read Post 12.... I said 'if you post a close up focused picture of the T-CON Bd and another pic with the flat cable connector for both sides I MAY be able to give you a position for the stationery tape'.........Of course you can try it on your own.

I just had a chance to open the TV up again this weekend. Here are some pictures of the T-Con board and the back sides of the left and right ribbon cables that go to the board below.

Same problem, in my case on the left side. it worked for me. I used tape to cover pin 1 = CKVB3 and pin19 = CKV3. The image stopped blinking and was stable. Some horizontal lines appear but are hardly noticeable.

I use this method for sony and samsung televisions. Try with CKV1 and CKV2, etc. One at a time.
