Hi guys! Set is completely dead! Checked the psu and a blue ceramic cap had exploded also the fuse was dead so I've replaced both of them with the correct value replacements but it's still dead nothing voltages from psu to mainboard are all 0! I haven't got a multimeter at the minute though ( cheap Chinese one fell apart so ordered a better one) does anyone know what are the main causes of a completely dead set are? I've read alot about lg sets with faulty mainboards! Cheers!

Do you have any photo's of your boards and any voltage readings taken? ALl helpful.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Re: 32lm3400 dead no standby
You have two power supply sections:
1) The SMPS IC 501 is for the always on 3.5V standby power supply section.
2) That C102 is the snubber cap for the MOSFET Q101 which is for the switched power supply that will only come on when PWR-ON control signal is present.
Right you do not have Standby power to run the main board so that will be the section you need to test first.
What DCV do you have when measured right between the two legs of the main filter cap C110?Never stop learning

Re: 32lm3400 dead no standby
Connect your meter set to AC volts and measure the voltage at the two black arrows "~". One meter lead on each point.
Then measure the DC voltage at the two red arrows. Red meter lead on "+" and black meter lead on "-".
Don't let the probes slip since this is the Live (HOT) side of the circuit board.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Verify that the replacement fuse is good, also verify that you do have 230VAC between the two pins of the incoming AC connector on that power supply board.Never stop learning

Re: 32lm3400 dead no standby
check the fuse in circuit? whats the best way to test it? ive been testing it in diode mode..also measured the two pins and im getting 242VAC!Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuWly36NyEE <---- thats how i test fuses!
the fuse now appears to be bad if im testing it right lo but was 100% good before i soldered it in! and i know ive got the correct replacement 100%!Comment

Re: 32lm3400 dead no standby
There appears to be some marks on the circuit board alongside C102 which I would check is not damaged. Also check the mosfet alongside it Q10x? is not short circuited.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Re: 32lm3400 dead no standby
You need to check the mosfet since the snubber capacitor was damaged and so is probably also damaged.
Hopefully you can find the fault. With the set disconnected from the mains and just using your multimeter set to ohms check the mosfet.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Re: 32lm3400 dead no standby
hi thanks for the replies! you are right..the mosfet is shorted! ive uploaded the data sheet i cant find any of these in the uk only china and i cannot wait that long! would there be an equivalent one ?? many thanks!Attached FilesComment

Re: 32lm3400 dead no standby
You need to verify that R114 is also OK or not, it should be <1 Ohm + your meter probes resistance.
Hopefully that IC101 is not damaged when that MOSFET shorted out otherwise you will damage your new MOSFET.Last edited by budm; 07-10-2018, 01:47 PM.Never stop learning

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.
Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today.... -

Greetings to all, a while ago my TV was dead, it didn't turn on and the standby light was off, the next day it is working. But these days it no longer wants to turn on, I did some troubleshooting, I disconnected the main board, I checked the voltage on the backlight and there is 400 DC, when I connect it again the main board the voltage drops, in all that troubleshooting, miraculously the standby light comes on and the TV works. After an hour I check and test, I turn on the TV, the Stanby light flashes 3 times and it...05-22-2024, 02:07 PM -
by fharris1977Hi. I got a Vizio with no power or standby, and won't turn on with remote or button. I checked the voltages on the connector and all read 0.00V or nearly 0(0.050 ON/OFF pin). None of the pins are labeled STB for standby although I do see some 5V pins. Other than the obvious standby led, which isn't coming on, is there a way to check for standby voltage on this PS. I'm trying to see if my problem is the PS or mainboard. Some Vizios I have fixed with no standby led me to think it was the PS but it turned out being the mainboard. Any experience with this set would be greatly appreciated.1 Photo

by max-powerHi, I disassemble my laptop to replace the speakers, to access them, you have to remove everything including the heat sink and fan, unscrew the motherboard, lift it up a bit to access the speaker wire.
that was not the first time I dissasemble it, i did replace the same speaker a few year ago and I repaste it last year, so I had nothing to worry about. but when I put everything back together, its completely dead.
After a bit of investigating, i found one pin of the status led ribbon cable that was unglued from the cable and bend touching another pin, I bend it back at his place... -
by jacobtcI've owned this C1 from new since late 2021, and it has now suddenly started with the following symptom:
If power has been connected for a while, the red standby lamp turns off, and the tv wont turn on (no reaction from remote or button on tv).
If power has been disconnected for 5 minutes, the tv turns on fine, until turned off and left for a couple minutes, as the standby light will then turn off again.
I've seached and found that this is most likely a failing PSU, and I've seen repair services on eBay fixing these symptoms, so I am hoping that someone here has fixed... - Loading...
