I've made no secret that I'm an electronics novice. Last night I watched a utube video on tuner r&r. Not exately a 5 minute job! Hey Moreno83 or tvtimmy or anyone else for that matter, got a spare Hakko 808 desoldering gun lying around that I could use for free? No...I didn't think so.

Or replace the rf connector, it's not that hard to do.

As luck would have it, I just happen to have a couple of those lying around and that idea crossed my mind. But, there were 2 pin holes down inside the big hole and the outside of the big hole was badly deformed as was the whole top of the tuner actually. Too much damage IMO.

You can remove the top cover (with the label) it should just pop off, then you can see inside the tuner and also straighten the other tin.
That might also give you access to solder the center pin back to the board, then solder the connector to the tin.

I figured as much, about the top popping off however, as Andrew Ali stated, I paid for a good board, I should have received one. Someone yanked that tv from the wall and cable ripping the rf connector out. And from what I've heard lately, it's a common event. Probably a tv repossession or possible theft. Another member has the same board that had the same issue.

I agree about not repairing it if you are returning it.

the connectors can also get broken when people move the tv for cleaning behind it and the cable is too short or they had a device connected and forgot to unscrew the cable when they removed it.
As you can see its not attached very well, only a crimp to that thin piece of tin.

Relax , i did not mean it like that! English is not my first language so my punctuation is not that great and you can read it differently....
But you are right , you payed for a good working board and you shouldnt fix your "new" board.

Hope you get a replacement and atleast you now know what the main problem was.
I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!

No worries, forget it. I'm currently trying to get the tuner off my bad board using a pencil iron and cheap solder sucker...it ain't easy. I've located a good board that needs a tuner...so...maybe it'll work out after all. I'm also waiting on refund of damaged board.

You dont need a expensive soldering iron. I got a $35 solder station from China that works absolutely great! Before i used this station i used a normal 85w solder iron.

What you can do with a simple iron is to heat up the solder pad and use air to blow away the solder. ( can of compressed air ).

Well, after about 4 hours of hard work, the tuner is finally off. 2 different soldering irons, a cheap solder sucker, some resoldering with flux on the main legs then quick air blast from shop air compressor....whew.

I got it pretty hot a couple of times, I hope I didn't damage it! Anyway curious minds gotta know so I popped the top off. There's a lot going on in there! Here's some pics, sorry about the quality but I'm tired.

                          I sure hope I didn't hurt it.

It looks good to me. I agree it is a tedious exercise. When you are fully rested, slap it on the new board. Oh BTW when you are taking out the defective tuner from the new board be extremely careful you don't crack or break the board.

                              Thanks Andrew
I forgot to say, the next board I'm considering already has the tuner removed. I was told that it had the f connector ripped off it also. That's why I removed the tuner from my board, practice, practice, practice!

Looks fine by me. Needs a bit of cleaning up. Just add a little flux and just "swipe" over the tin and it will look just fine. Flux will do all the work.

After that just clean it with alcohol and your fine. Traces look ok.

Exactly. Maybe I will use tequila. For me not the board LOL.

SERIOUSLY, I mean this is the TOPSIDE of the board, right under where the tuner lives. Solder splatter, runs, what looks like iron scrapes all over the board. It's hard telling what the solder side (the. business side) of the board looks like!
If you guys can't see the difference in these pics, I give up!

IMHO, you had too much tequila before you removed your tuner, lol.
