Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi again,

The problem on the MSI 7519 P45 Neo v1.0 , was indeed the OST 680uF 4V caps.
The MB crashed sometimes at boot to continuously a month after the first time I noted this problem. Also heavy programs which demanded too much of the VRM led sometimes to a crash as well at the end.

The problem is certainly the 4 caps at the VRM but I replaced all of the OST's with solid caps a month ago, and have back a stable system. The holes for the caps were more than big enough. I searched hard to find caps with similar dimensions of the originals ones while this is not really necessary.(RL 80J681 nichicon)

so thanks for the useful information.

        Hi,

Thought I'd finally join after reading this forum over the last two years. I'm an industrial robot programmer (11 years now) who has always played with electronics on my own projects from fixing my receivers and tv to building my own circuits and programming micro controllers for my own projects.

Thanks everyone for all the informative posts!

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

I'm a commercial photographer in NY who very weirdly does not do most of his work on a Mac, so have been building my own PC's since the early 90's. I'm an advanced amateur at component level replacement (I used to do electronics as a hobby in my youth), and became aware of the forum when the motherboard on my computer suddenly died. Several of the caps are showing black goo around the vent seams at their tops. The board died a true death, and won't post, beep, or twitch. The power, fans, and lights turn on and off. That's it.

I've never worked on anything with so many surface mount components, and the prospect of recapping this board feels a bit outside my skill level, but just a bit. I'm having a debate with myself over whether to seek professional help (something my wife often suggests) or take a swing at it myself.

I've since replaced the board and CPU with newer components. I'd repair this one to take advantage of the CPU and RAM on it for a computer for one of the kids. I *could* replace it with a "refurbished" (meaning it's been dusted - no new parts) one on eBay, but I have to think the caps on another board will ultimately go the same way.

This is the first time I've ever commented in any forum ever. Be gentle.

                  Hello from the UK

I've known about this site since about 2003/4, about the time I came accross my first leaked capacitor. Since then I've come accross other states of capaicitor including buldging and completely blown off the board.

I've yet to do any soldering because the motherboards I've generally come into contact with that have blown capacitors were never worth more than my time to solder so it was always easier and cheaper to get a motherboard replacement.

However, I'm finally in possession of a board which is worth more than the capacitors and my time to solder them to the board so I will start my posts with advice about this board

hi guys, i'm new to the site and i'm interested in reading your professional repair and upgrade solutions that are feasible to a beginner. i have a several computers and i know i'm not maximizing them at all because i lack focus and have early onset Alzheimer's and seem to break everything i touch... like yesterday i dropped my hp w2408h monitor and now there's a small crack on the screen that didn't seem like a big deal but now it's all i can see - getting bigger in neon purple and making my brain go crazy! i'm thinking about replacing the lcd screen but now that i downloaded the disassembly_monitor.pdf - i feel discouraged. anyway, hello from boulder and will keep reading about your tech advice and things. ta rah

                              Hi Everyone,
I"m new to the componet level repair. I've actually read post from badcaps in the past by searching the internet and it's helped me to repair a number of things which in fact were actaully bad caps. Thank you Badcaps.net. My most recent project is an LCD TV I want to repair in which I know very little about. So I decided to join this fine forum in hopes of getting some answers. I have an associates degree in specialized technologies and worked for a consulting firm for a number of years. Got downsized and now I've been forced to work in the manufacturing arena.

Hi all. Carlos is the name. I'm an IT engineer so I mostly do troubleshooting and replacements for hardware and some fixing where software is concerned.

I passed basic electronics in order to get my diploma back in the day, but never really liked it.

My knowledge of electronics is extremely limited, but I'd like to think of myself as capable with a soldering iron. Most intricate work I've done is rebuilding the solder lines inside the ECU for a car that got damaged and corroded - managed to put back the lines to the legs for some transistors and capacitors in there. Used additional wires for sections where no lines could make contact on the board.

Most of what I've been able to do is identify some parts (visibly) as bad - I have no recollection of how to test NPN/PNP - basic tracing using continuity.

Best documented work I've done is below.

                                  http://idforums.net/index.php?showtopic=33319

Hopefully I can learn and then teach others thereafter. I'd love to be able to do these repairs more confidently and not have to do guess work. Currently have a Soyo Topaz S which I'm trying to go through. Help and learning would be welcome for that and anything else.

Biggest challenge? Living in Jamaica we have nothing but sub-standard parts available. Nothing like Rubycon or CapXon - just some generic brands like KC.
