Hello all
My name is Tim, and I am a broadcast engineer for a major group of stations. I discovered by trial and error just how easy it is to fix LCD monitors about 5 years ago when our large number of NEC and Samsung monitors, all about the same age, started dying. 100 % failure rate, amazing example of planned obsolescence. in 99% of cases it was the same few components that failed. I joined the forum for that 1% that are not easy to fix. If I can get it down to one monitor repaired every 15 minutes, it becomes economically feasible, otherwise to the recyclers they go... It's just that first example of a new model that takes the time.

I came accross this site as I was looking to fix a Onix Rocket ULW 10 Sub.
I had encouraged my daughter and her husband to purchase the sub, as it was in the price range of what they were wanting to spend.
A few years later and the sub has a constant humming.
Searching the web , I came accross this site with the fix for the ULW 10. Much cheaper than buying a new plate amp from Parts Express.
I am no electrionics wizard, so I will give them the information obtained here and hope they have a friend that can do the work.

Hello! I came across this forum from a google search. I'm an EE but mostly a computer guy these days (last 18 years) and have contemplated fixing up some old dell fiasco motherboards that had the cheapo popped caps. Its so nice to find this forum and guys that specialize in this kind of thing!

My main project is getting some of the small form factor dells with popped caps, replacing them and using them as diskless workstations (kinda like an x term).

Hi all,

I just joined today and already posted a question about a Gateway LP2407 monitor. I enjoy working with computers and have done so for around 20 yrs. I also enjoy working on things and figuring out how things work. I was in the Army for 4 years back in the early 90's and gained some electronic repair experience. I don't have much experience at troubleshooting at the component level, i.e. resistor, capacitor, diode, etc. but I can easily replace such items if I know they are bad - often you can visually see bad components. If anyone has suggestions on how to learn more about troubleshooting electronics, etc. I would apprecitate any tips. This is a great forum with a lot of good information on it. I hope to be able to contribute with some of my experience as well as gain some more.

Hi all,

Just joined this forum, must say there are a lot of people here with a lot of knowledge about electronics and computers in general. I'm in the ICT sector and do a bit of electronics repair on the side line as a hobby. Well actually I've been doing repairs for about 25 years. I first stumbled across this website when I had problems with a computer psu that a friend of mine brought in for repair, and thanks to this forum I had the PC operational in no time. (Bad caps on PSU).

I found this site when looking for info on a mic preamp with bulging caps.

I'm a engineer who leans more to the software side, but still enjoy hardware as a hobbyist.

Just found this forum while Googling for info on a specific mother board in an older computer I'm repairing. First computer was a Sinclair kit. Wow, that that a pain in the rear to type on and then hope and pray you could save the program. Still have it too.

Did use main frames in the Air Force during Vietnam but never believed from that experience I'd ever want one at home!

Cheese), Production Engineering Tech for Unitrol Sirens and many others over the years. My diverse background includes working as a machinist for a stint and even hanging and taping drywall professionally for 10 years. Hi All,

I've been looking around this forum for quite some time now, and always found useful info for my repair projects here. I'm not a trained technician or anything, just a inspired (yet careful) amateur that tries to save salvagable stuff from landing on the scrapheap. IMHO the best way to recycle stuff is in prolonging its lifespan.

During the past years I've done some recapping already. Replaced the major caps on my Epox 8RDA+, which got it back on its feet until it bit the bucket again a few months later. The board has been laying in storage ever since. I did not succeed in reviving 2 Draytek 2200E routers, both failed due to a bad cap which caused the same resistor to burn beyond recognition. Ohm's value still unknown.
At the moment I have my hands on a Samsung 940BW LCD monitor with a baaaadly failed PSU board. It has a large hole burnt in the PCB and numerous fried components, can't tell if it's caused by the cap that's directly next to it. Of course the 3A fuse that's in the circuitry directly before it is still completely intact... The board is beyond repair, so a total write-off. I'm thinking about opening a thread about this failure and attach some photo's, just to share the horror.

BTW: as you can see from my nickname I'm sort of a 'born again Atarian' ;-) Started using my 800 again a few years ago, to find it still worked right away without a hitch after 20 years of storage. They just don't build 'em like that anymore.

Can not find the schema of this device.
Preliminary testing has shown that faulty circuit inverter.
It is suspected of malfunctioning Q201, Q202.
We will be grateful to you for this information.
