Hey, my Name is Ronan and I am a IT-Administrator. Since a longer time I am interested in electronics and repair smaller defects on devices. I want to learn more about computer repairs and get a deeper look into function of Mainboards, Grafic Cards etc.
In general I am addicted to learn new things and get broken things running :-). I am here to learn and share my experience.

      Kind regards
      Ronan

            Hello all,

My name is Bill, i am no professional by any means, purely a hobbyist who gets a kick out of fault finding electronics and repairing them!

I have a request for an 'Asus X99-S motherboard' boardview if anyone can help? it is to help confirm my diagnosis of a burnt pch and find any other components that may have also been taken out at the same time.

I also have a request for advice trying to source a replacement pch for this board (image attached)

As I say im a novice so I'm even probably lacking the terminology to soucre one lol The best I have found so far is an 'Intel BGA chip G49628 01' says nothing about it being an 'Asus x99-s express chipset' though and I can only assume needs programming? Can these be sourced as an 'Asus x99-s express chipset'?

Kindest regards to anyone who may try to help

            Bill

Mostly posting for sake of derestricting my usage limitations :P

I've actually used these forums a number of times off and on over the years, unregistered... (I think, who knows, maybe I actually made an account once), as I've often found myself needing input and insight on failed caps and other related issues on all sorts of hardware.

Went to a vocational high school for basic digital and analog electronics about 25 years ago... right when most consumer goods had become mostly disposable -_-
So my options were basically continue school to pursue an electronics engineering degree, or be a solder-monkey on an assembly line.

I wasn't interested in either, so I never really did anything professional with my education.
I've mostly used my electronics knowledge for old game console modding, basic repair, and general electrical stuff on cars and old 70s/80s mopeds.

Coincidentally I find myself in a moderately technical position at a proper biG BoY aDuLT jOB and am kicking myself that I cannot find my old high-school electronics notebook because it would basically serve 90% of all the technical info I would need (and have long since forgotten after two decades). I'm currently tasked with maintaining PCs and assorted proprietary test boxes ranging from 20 to 50 years old... aaand among those I have run into more than a handful of mid-2000s Dell machines suffering The Plague.

Registered today to download a capacitor datasheet that I couldn't find anywhere else online, hoping the forum allows me to download it...

                  Hello All!

Long time lurker, registered today to get out from the shadows.

My $DayJob is IT related (in fact... Storage and Backup admin) on spare time I like to try to botc.... erm! repair any electronics that falls on my hands. Lately I've been repairing my fair share of GPU's and some power supply (last one a Mosfet exploded sending shrapnel inside the PSU along some leaky caps).

Master of none, jack of all trades and with over 50 years... still eager to learn more and more.

                        Presentation in English:

Hello, my name is Mauro Baiardi. I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I'm 37 years old. I am a retired physician with experience in psychiatry. At one point, I tried to enter the fields of Electronic Engineering and Sound Engineering, but I didn't succeed as I'm not very good with mathematics.

However, I've always enjoyed recycling and repairing devices. Since I was a child, I would dismantle my toys to see what they had inside and understand how they worked. Recently, I've acquired and repaired several LED monitors, and now I'm here because I'd like to repair a DELL 2709WFPB LCD monitor.

                        Best regards.
