Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Sorry for any problem this may cause. I have not yet learned how to make threads concerning my question.

I have a Dell SE198WFP Monitor I think 19 inch. The Screen is blank/black and the light for the power button is showing the power is on with a solid/constant on blue light.

                  P.S.
It would be helpful if someone would show me how to use the website.

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..

LG repairer has no parts and can't fix it can't afford to buy new one am hoping you can help me fix it.

My name is Chooky from Melb Australia am on forum to help me fix my Plasma TV which l love, What an Amazing Site this is.

Can Anyone help me with this problem ? I have LG 50PG20D Plasma TV had it for 5 years
but when l switch it on No picture No Sound. When switched on goes grey then switches off - it does this 3 times and never get a picture. It slowly got worse over time. Is Relay RL101 doing this and why? What is Voltage output of Z-Sus is it 50 Volt. Have looked around and can't find anything wrong, nothing seems to be burned out that l can see. Caps seem ok. Can you tell me where the problem is and how can l fix it. Can't afford new TV. LG repairman can't fix it no parts he told me it probably is part no EBR42472802/EBR42472903 which l can't get.
Please help what can l do? can l fix it?

                            Hello

I am new to the electronics repair world. My limited knowledge of electronics comes from the world of purchasing electronics for an audio video custom installation company. I have mainly dabbled in the repair of flat screen TVs that our clients have discarded because they no longer worked and they upgraded to the latest and greatest models currently available.
I hope to some day be able to offer my services for a fee. Right now I just enjoy learning (and there is a lot I need to learn).

I have used the internet to research issues and remedies, trying to discern the differences between credible information and just plain garbage.
That is why I have joined Badcaps.net. I hope to use this forum for advice, and then once more experienced, hope to be able to give back by sharing my experiences.
                            Thanks,
                            humbletc
