Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi All

Came to sort out my sister's Toshiba A200. Cool cutting edge site that hopefully will sort me out when I solder the newly ordered capacitors in place.

    Cheers to all

            Hi,

I just recently purchased a Vizio GV42l and I am trying to get it to work. I plan to use the guides posted on the site to help me troubleshoot.

            Thank you,

Hello everyone! I am new here and joined in hopes of fixing a broken LCD monitor I was given for free and an Android tablet that was accidentally connected to the wrong power adapter. I like tinkering, modding, and fixing stuff. I'm into RC off-road racing, indoor helis, indoor/outdoor quadcopters, suped up Power Wheels and electric recreational scooters, and technology in general. I'm a Linux systems analyst / administrator by profession. I look forward to participating on the forums. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie looking to learn lol. My first computer was an Apple 2 back in the late 70's early 80's. I have to say i was a forum junckie myself back in the satellite days and got a kick out of Petabyte's comment at the beginning lol "My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:" too funny and I guess i just fell off the wagon myself lol. Looks like a great site and can't wait to learn some more, starting with my tv lol. Before I start my own tread i like to say thanks to everyone who made this site possible, simple and friendly. I also like to thank everyone who has problems and takes the time to post them so we can all learn from them. Thanks everyone

                    Hi all...

Came here because of a somewhat bodged recap of a HP DPS-200PB-171 power supply (5v does not show up).

                    Will post 'aboot' it later.

                    And also:

                    bad caps on p4 board:
i got them free because they were about as stable as charles manson.
                    LOL!

I'm a former auto tech with a fair background in electronics and have worked on and with pc's since the old 80386 . I'm always in need of hardware information and I can see there's a wealth of info here as well as some very smart people to boot.
So thanks again for this forum , it's already helped me with some much needed power supply info.

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..
Hello, I'm new here. I'm a Elect. Engineer working in Inst. and Control, but do a lot of mechanical things also, a lot of DIY projects. I like engines, motors and things that move and do work. I'm retro fiting an old benchtop CNC mill with servo motors and PC based controller. I been collecting tools all my life, a few more items and I'll have my own Fab shop.

I have a Westinghouse LD4655-VX LED tv that just went dark right in the middle of a football game. I'm starting to troubleshoot it, with a little sun light on the screen i could still the a faint picture, so I assume the led back lights are not working. I have IDed and collected data sheets for the major ICs in the power converter and LED driver circuits. The ribbon cables and connections to the LED look to be in good shape, but could be shorted at the LED end where they wrap around the AL frame. If had a schematic of the DC-DC converter and LED circuit I could track down the problem.
This seems to be a common problem with this WH TV, so maybe other members have more info and insight on the problem...........Thanks

Hello everyone, I'm an army paratrooper veteran with a background in software development. After seeing huge potential and momentum in the amazing Arduino platform, I started to look into embedded software design -which naturally lead my curiosity and interest in the open-hardware movement and eventually electrical circuits as a means to an end for the embedded applications and the so-called "internet of things" that initially caught my eye. While I have always assembled my own computers, overclocked them and even tweaked my PSU's, that's as far into hardware that I ever got until Arduino came around. I'm still a novice with much to learn, but nothing has ever captured my interest in the same manner. I caught the bug, so to speak. I guess I'm one of the thousands (possibly millions) of people who were introduced to the world of electrical circuits through Arduino. However, while I still keep an Arduino board around to play with occasionally, I have moved on to the BeagleBone and other 32-bit platforms as well as taken an interest in general circuit design. I'm now really interested in FPGA development and am eager to dig into that field. So much to learn and so little time we all have here on earth to learn it. I look forward to learning what I can from you all, and maybe eventually contributing back in any little way that I can.
