Hi, i'm really useless with pc's and mathematics. My forté is sound and i dabble in some lighting, i make repairs to many things electronic or mechanical. First computer was a C64 with a tape deck! Now a mac guy but use PC's if i have to i'm just not very good with PC's etc. Came here to try to better understand capacitor ESR values and how to check for bad caps depending on the readings i'm getting from them on my recently purchased Atmega component checker. Am also trying to get into Arduino for hobby stuff like quad copter building projects etc. But it's all new to me when it comes to arduino and atmega programming, seems fairly simple once you get to know how to find and modify the code but the hardest part seems to be finding the correct code for your hardware then finding the right people to help with the questions. Perhaps one day i'll get it but i do have my time taken up with many different projects so i never really put all of my energy into one area. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. But i find mostly it is advantageous to be able to do a bit of everything.

Hello everyone. My name is Dave and I found your site looking for information to help me fix my HP 2509m monitor. Looks like this is the place to be. Lots of great information here. I'm a computer guy since the beginning of time but haven't really worked on electronics at the board level but am always ready for a challenge. With a little help from the experienced here I hope to save my monitor from the boneyard.

I have been a tech - mainly software, but background and training in Electronics. Found a good thread about the 2 seconds to black on a Gateway monitor I had picked up... Will need to make some time to trouble shoot it.

I am an absolute noob when it comes to computer and stuff.
This would be a personal mini project, to prove that ladies can fix a computer device too XD

Recently found a super useful thread to repair a faulty monitor Dell 3008wfp, but was faced with another dead end. Will continue to read the thread and hopefully solve the issue!

Hi all-
I'm a tv engineer from the '60's and tried to keep up with stuff. Emigrated to Perth Western Australia in '82 went on first video disc and CD course ever in Aussie at Pioneer Melbourne. Oce sent me on an MS Dos course in '84 also Melbourne. State service Manager for Radio Rentals for a while discovered I swapped pratts in Melbourne head office for idiots in London-why is it the higher up the management scale the more stupid and petty the people get?
So fed up with grotty management started on my own in '86.
Specialised in video projector systems and PA did most of the pubs and clubs in Perth, then saw writing on the wall for repairs and did 2 years full-time doing diploma in IT, Networking and System Administration. Also did full-time course for Home Automation Clipsal C-Bus2 mainly. Repatriated back to Bournemouth UK last March - climate change has made life intolerable in Perth.

My name is Chris and currently I am interning at an biotechnology engineering company. My goal is create an electronic circuit that illustrates the blood flow through the heart, lungs, and body as the AV node pulses. This circuit will be used in my Tech Ed class to teach electronic theory and application to middle school students while introducing biotechnology as a driving force in today's economy. I received a 2 year degree in electronics in 2002 and ran an amplifier repair shop out of my garage until 2008. I'm here because this site definitely looks like an excellent resource for a rusty amp tech trying to get the oscilloscope back on the bench.

Hi, My name is Bruce and I live in New England. I've worked building computers and supporting them for 30+ years... my first one's being Texas Instruments Ti-99/4A's back in 1980 that I bought for myself and kids (didn't want any fights).
More recently, since I retired, I've started to learn about flat screen televisions.
It seemed like a natural progression since you need something to look at whether it's for work or entertainment. The TVs nowadays seem easier to work on being modular in design (and lighter too!).
I've looked at a few forums but this one stands out so I decided to join. I'm hoping that every person in this forum, including myself, can gain or pass on some knowledge to someone else.

As this is a brand new forum, I thought I'd open up a thread to encourage new members to introduce themselves a bit.. now hey.. let's not get too personal.. ok ?

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. :oops: I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. :roll: nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often :cry: so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..

I'm Pete and have a general interest in electronics .Main interest is old radios ,valve or transistor but no chips!
Get lumbered now and again to repair modern stuff which is a challenge with all those things with lots of legs on !!

Hey people. Names Dave. Computer Engineer. Software mostly, with a lesser emphasis on the Electrical Engineering aspects. Im familiar with most modern microcontrollers, chipsets, electrical components and circuits etc... The main reason I joined this forum is to get a better understanding of some of the older tech used in the 80s, 70s mostly in repairing some old panasonic receivers and car stereos.
