Hello. My daughters acer aspire e1 will not power up. It's only 3 years old. Power cord checked out ok. There's power going to the motherboard. Should there be full power going into the motherboard with the laptop shut off? Thanks

I live in Vermont, USA, and have no experience with electronics. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade, but that requires keeping a computer running. My 1st was an HP 80 series. It seems like there's always something broken or questions that need an answer. It looks like I'll be learning quite a bit here...

Hey guys... Chip Darnell from Raleigh, NC and a new member. I have a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Central Florida, (Orlando) and I enjoy circuit design, simulation, coding, (only when absolutely necessary ) and troubleshooting analog and digital systems. I'm also an avid guitar and bass player for 30+ years and like mixing, (pun intended) my love of music and tech together.

Hi Gang The Name is Bert I'm 56 Years New I was In the Tv Repair Job For About 15 Years Before The Flat Panel Tv's Were Out Been Out For A While But That Hasn't Stoped Have Fixed A Few Since Then Lately Three Wit Bad Boards ( Hit By Lighting ) And About 4 With Bad Caps Duh! I Like The Name Of The Forum. Enough For My First Post.

wow! i feel I should say something about myself in this thread, however I don't even come close to anything ya'll have done or submitted.I'm just a guy that tinkers with stuff that breaks and my friends attempt to toss that I don't have the heart to let them dispose of.
I found this amazing site, and yes you people are phuqin (hope that's ok) AMAZING in your knowledge and your generosity with said knowledge and your help, whenI had a problem with a T.V. I got cleaing out a friends house after an eviction that powered on but screen was blank. My sister happened to be over at the time and said "Oh,that's not a problem. Here try this site,iif you can't find a solution or a fix here then it probably ca't be fixed.These guys REALLY KNOW THEIR S***!" Her words exactly. I have been soaking up as much as I can keep up with,but must admit I get lost sometimes trying to follow the lingo which is all on me and my lack knowledge of the terminology of the field. And thanks to your forums of the terms I'm catching up.slowly but surely.
There is no doubt in my mind that there's nothing that you guys here o this site can't fix or any problem that you an't solve.
I've been a fan since the first day I read my first forum.
Ok that's a long winded enough intro from me. I just felt the need to tel you all just how valuable I find this place and that even us not so tech savvy peeps are truly thankful for.
Specially since you are helpful without the condescension found elsewhereand I can't tell you how much that really means, there are no words to describe it

Hello everyone. I am a senior clinical engineering specialist at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and have a degree in electronics technology with a focus in biomedical electronics. Into motorcycles and older Porsche's. So I'll cut to the chase and get to my problem. I have an LG 42PC3D which I purchased new in 2006. The set has been good to me until a few weeks ago when the screen went blank but the sound remained on. I traced the fault to the y-sus board (had a blown FS2 fuse) and sent it off to Coppell in TX for repair. Got the board back and now when the set comes on it will only stay on for a few seconds at which point you hear a pop and a relay click and the set attempts to reboot. I confirmed output voltages on the PS and have the following.

VS 183.9v
VA 59.2v
all other control v's are as follows. 18.99, 5.94, 4.9, 3.3v

I also observed that just prior to the set rebooting VS sags to 168v and that if I pull the ribbon cables off the output of the YDRVTP board this does not occur. Also, I can reconnect any (one) ribbon cable to the YDRVTP output and I'm okay. If I connect a second ribbon cable (and it doesn't matter which one) I will again observe the voltage sag. I'm inclined to think that the fault if the buffer board. What do you guy's think? Warren

Greetings all. I tend to frequent various audio visual and technology forums, but rarely join them, since I oftentimes only come to see if there is a solution to a problem I am faced with. Most of the time someone else out there has already "been there, done that" in regards to a problem I am faced with and I come, find the solution, and then move on, most likely returning at a later date. I wouldn't at all be surprised if I stumbled across this site back in 2003 when it was launched, but probably (most likely) didn't bother registering. This is one of a few forums that now (I don't think always in the past?) requires registering in order to see other users' attachments and uploads, so here I am finally registering in order to view some images another user uploaded to help me in my troubleshooting efforts.

Other than that, here's a quick summary of "me":

My first machine was an Olivetti 8086 in the '80s given to me to play around with by my dad (he worked full-time for Olivetti in Germany while we were stationed there as a family with the Army), back when "floppy disks" were still floppy, and it didn't take long for me to "brick" that one. After that it was an Amiga (still find it awesome it didn't need a hard drive!), then 286, 386, 486 to Pentium 66, 100, 120, 133, 150 and so on and so forth. I remember having a "turbo" button on the front of an old home-built PC, ha!

Fast forward many years and I've now been in the Army for 10 years myself (I joined a bit later than the "traditional" age of 18). Surprisingly, I ended up in the medical field and not the technology sector of the Army. I still enjoy my gadgets and am always amazed at new technology, while at the same time not impressed by how long it takes companies to "iron out" problems that arise with newer, better electronics. Unfortunately sometimes they just cease support and jump onto the bandwagon of "what the consumer thinks she/he wants, even if the tech isn't necessarily "better." Innovation will always happen, but it's all about maximizing profits so the companies can stay afloat and continue to innovate.

This will probably be the longest post you'll ever see from me, so I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to this site's founder and current owner(s) (if different) and an even BIGGER THANK YOU to everyone that has and continues to post with problems, solutions and general conversation and dialogue that contribute to others' understanding of technology and helping troubleshoot their tech problems or at least point them in the right direction.

Thanks also for past help from reading other's posts and for the future help I will undoubtedly receive.

Hello all. I'm a Scots expat living in Belgium. I got into video arcade collecting about a year back, and have slowly started getting into CRT/chassis repairs. Bad caps...yeah..
OK, and busted flybacks, anode caps that just crumble when pried off etc etc

I'm reasonably well kitted out for CRT repairs now, as in a proper HV discharge probe, good soldering iron, a couple of contacts in the VAC scene who have hen's teeth parts...and even got myself one of those fancy CRT rejuvenators (not that I've had the guts to try it yet...)

The reason I'm joining this forum is our 9 yr old Bravia stopped working.
I spotted here a probable solution (FEE card firmware update), so it seemed worthwhile joining up!

I'm quite impressed by more modern TVs in that they protect themselves by powering down and giving error codes. It's a bit annoying that the information and files to do the updates are so hard to find though. Thanks to forums like this though!
