HMMM I'll give a little info... I've been in the electronics field since 1991, with experience ranging from TV/VCR repair all the way to industrial electronics for a very large and well known manufacturer. I started in computers in 1994, just for a change and something I thought would be more challenging.... First of all, in the computer field, I AM NOT a number cruncher (programmer) YUK!!!!! I'm a hardware/network guy... I can install any OS, repair and make it work, but sitting and typing code is more boring than watching flies mate!! So I stick to hardware!! I get the 'thrill' from coming up with cures for problems, creative and USEFUL mods (this DOES NOT include neon lights and corny batman windows in my cases)...

Well, age?! I'll say late 20's and that's close enough... I enjoy dealing with the computers, all of this is just a hobby these days, so if it did flop, it's no loss... I'm also a car nut... (300ZX!!!)... I also enjoy flying immencely, although, no I don't own an airplane... YET!!! Maybe if I sell off all this computer junk, I could afford one... HEH I own 3 domain names, and host sites for a few friends on this array... Of course they pay me nothing... HMMM Ohh well... Money isn't all... That's about all I think needs to be revealed... If there's something you really need to know about me, ask... The answer all depends on the question you asked...

                            Anyhow,

                                Salutations!
I'm Burnamit. It's a pleasure to be a part of this forum. Ive already collected some handy info that will help with a current project.
A little about me......I am a civil engineering student, currently on my third year pursuing my BA. Tinkering with all things electrical is just a hobby for me...I like to break things down and see what makes them tick. I have a borderline obsession with learning, so I'm always working on some type of project. I'm a hands on type of person and I take pride in my ability to be self suffecient.
Thank you, for welcoming me to the forum. I look forward to all the insight I can gain from other members.

                                  Howdy!

Stumbled onto this forum from google while searching for solutions to an issue I've run into with a laptop- shorting out the power brick, which is a new one for me. Found a thread addressing this specific issue with the laptop in question and needed to register to look at the pictures the helpful people here posted in response.

Anyways, little about myself; I work at a Japanese-style arcade, where I repair stuff (I assure you there is no input delay on that CRT... you're just bad at that game; I can't fix that) and take peoples' money (No refunds, you cant sell the game card back to us, and the owners will laugh at you if you can somehow get ahold of them to complain). I also repair computers/electronics on the side and very occasionally draw pretty pictures for cash.

                                  Look forward to lurking about.

Hello- just a girl, working on broken life essentials with a non-existent budget, trying not to electrocute myself in the process. I'd like to build a time machine in order to go back and tell my younger self to take better care of her credit rating, so I wouldn't be in this boat. Alas, here I am. DIY or DIE!

                                      Tadpole in the pond

Well I guess you could say I'm a Tadpole in this ocean of relative knowledge. I'm 61, self-taught in the wilds of computer interaction. I consider… as they say, “know enough to be dangerous” My first date was with a Radio Shack TSR-80… I took on a 3-year loan for the experience of learning next to nothing and getting the same for my money… A case of your eyes are bigger that your stomach. That experience ruined me for quite a while, I continued to sponge as much knowledge as possible, and over time… I am where I am.

I have been in the major appliance repair field since 1990. I service 95% of residential & commercial equipment, sealed system repair and AC – Heating. Over the years, increase electronics and computerization have monopolized the industry. All that was analog (except for microwaves), now employ digital components, inverter technology and 3 phase controllers. It's no wonder the old guard are leaving the ranks in a huff. A lot of the relay and main power boards in today's appliances have a relative high failure rate, and to cause injury to insult… The appliance Mfg. have discontinued these boards leaving customers to fend for them self's. A niche market has developed, people knowing a quick buck is to be made are rebuilding these boards… Some at a great cost.

I'm glad to have stumbled onto this site. I have been in a frustration mode, dwelling over how to provide the best customer service. I'm very proficient in schematics, performing input – output test & have tinkered with a limited interaction of board level electronics in the past. Mostly just a re-solder or two. With the advent of these seemingly daunting component failures. I find myself as the doctor & priest, informing my customers they might need to unplug their appliance from life support. Yes, these boards can be removed and rebuilt… But with inconvenience and high cost. With the insight and the knowledge of this site and others. I now have the option of preforming on site repairs, with immediate verification.
Thanks for sharing, hope I may do the same.

Hi there! I have haunted this site for years, but just now decided to register. This place is a wealth of information!

About me, I work as a Controls Engineer programming PLCs and HMIs (and robots, lasers, and whatever else I need to). I am a hobby electronic tinkerer, and I love trying to repair people's broken stuff. I usually have at least 2 "broken" tvs in some stage of repair littering my basement table. I hope I can give back a little to this forum, because I sure have learned a lot from it.
