Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi!

I like computers since I'm a child (my first computer was a Toshiba T1900s laptop, a 486), and like to refurbish and repair what falls in my hands (as far as I can!)

Now I've decided to deal with new challenges and get more into electronics. My father has some experience, but he's so "old school" and some cases in computers are too much for him (but sometimes he succeed to repair them).

So I would like to present here my challenges and ask for help for a novice! I know very basics of electronics, but I hope that, with your help, can learn better, practice and get more experience

    Cheers!

Hello from the UK. I'm George, Scottish although I live in England now, 65 (until next week!). Lifelong dabbler in electronics and retired from TV / PC engineering although I still maintain my interest and still do repairs for friends. Enjoying getting to grips with flat screen technology - it doesn't bite as hard as the old CRT could. Currently working on an LG 47" with a problem that's well covered in this forum - which is how I found you.

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread "clean" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said "w00t.. they have a forum"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..
Hello Badcaps, my name is paul. I found y'all on the web while trouble shooting my plasma with a 4 & 10 blink code. I'm from New Awlins, originally and live in southern Ms. now near the coast. I don't do electronics repairs normally, but used to do commercial electrical work. Any way, I was wondering if there was a market for repairable plasma displays. From what I was able to figure out from reading some of your threads it probably just needs a little trouble shooting to determine which board is bad and replace it. It's a nice display, Panasonic TH-50PX75U. I'd hate to just dispose of it. Anyone interested?

Hello, everyone. :3 Just here to gain knowledge regarding a TV given to me by my uncle among other items in my possession. My interests and pursuits have fallen more into audio tech as opposed to the realm of visual tech, so I'm rather lost is all. I just refuse to purchase a new item if I know said item is repairable.

As per my user name, I am a cowboy, started riding when I was 3 yrs old. got out of it when I went to college and then started riding again about 30+ yrs ago when I met this wonderful Montana cowgirl. Have a wonderful day -Pat-

                                          Hi All,
I just joined this great site. I have seen this many time before and wanted to see some pdf's, so I joined in. My experience has been repairing small appliances, Lawn and garden stuff, ( I can make a chain saw purr like a kitten) with a nation wide company for 15 years. During that time I have cross trained into electronics, repairing VCRs. Yeah that was 20 years ago hahaha. I took an electronics class back in 1991 at a local collage, and have now reopened that old book. Its funny, I see marks I made in that book but now forgotten it all, so can you say "Refresher" hahaha....
I have been helping a friend with her PC repair company for the last 10 years on and off. And now I am into repairing the LCD/LED monitors and TVs... During which I have come across this site during searches for info. I found it to be Very helpful, so here I am! I fixed my old Beckman 3000 DMM, ( the knob stripped and one of the little forks broke, re-soldered) Its working good, and now I am ready to learn!
On a side note, Special K is a nick name I got from playing Softball.many many years ago. Not from the street drug fyi... And Yes I am a girl.... hahahahaha
