Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hey BadCappers,
AT here. I'm mostly an audio guy, but deal with the same capacitors frequently that computer folks like; good caps often tend to be good caps in both arenas, go figure, especially with digital hardware - hence the interest.

Peace to you - happy capping!

Hi, My name is Sandy Cox. I was looking into how to replace bad caps on some Samsung 204b monitors and came across this forum. The information here is fantastic and very helpful for those who have the know-how but just don't know how to. I'm 53 today and looking forward to starting a new hobby of monitor repair.

Hello from Birmingham, AL. I am trying to learn to repair LCD and Plasma tv's. I have successfully repaired several, but if it is past the capacitor problem I am still learning. Took two years of electronics in high school and my dad was in the signal battalion in the national guard. So, I know the basics. I am a golf course superintendent by trade so PM me with any grass question you have

Hello everyone. Great forum, I thought component level repair was a dying business, its good to know its alive and growing still in a world of dumbing things down. I've been repairing consumer electronics for over 20 years, I slowed down significantly when LCD and Plasmas came out. But I'm still an avid electronic -enthusiast, hobbyist, and dab into everything dealing with electronics when possible. I hope to contribute and help this forum in any way. Thanks.

                Hi all...
Been 'round these parts for a while, already bought some parts for repair, liked them so much I bought extras for home design projects.

I've "been a PC" even before the PC was a "PC". I was working as a design engr. on a project designing external hard drive / tape drive interfaces for the Apple LISA (remember that one?), when IBM announced this machine they thought no "home user" would REALLY need... the IBM Personal Computer, the 5150 in late 1980. We got one of their development systems for developers, but it was a couple months before they sent us any system hardware design spec's... by then we had it already figured out, and had the industry's first Hard Drive on the IBM PC (even before IBM). This was with Tallgrass Technologies, which went belly-up when they didn't diversify soon enough. The name lived on, but not the original hardware company.

So, been 'round that "PC" stuff since day 1.

B4 that, I bought my first Apple II in 1977, my last year of high school. Went through more than my share of various and sundry computers... TRS80, C64, an original Mac, an AMIGA 1000, a 500, 2000, & 4000. Sinclair, Timex, etc. al.... Built too many PC clones to even try to remember... overclocking from my '386 days.

After Tallgrass, served a stint as Dir. of R&D at an early NIC mfr, then 6 yrs of R&D at GARMIN (neat company, I was 11th employee). Then did some contract product development for a while, then a few yrs at a local contract design & mfr house.

After all that, went into full-time ministry, Dir. of media Ministries at a mega-church in KCMO... still there 12 years later.

Now I have a 13-yr old son who is tripping over the backs of my heels... he wants to overtake me in electronics, and will probably do so before too much longer! He already speaks fluent Arduino, C++, Visual-C, etc... threw out Win7 for Ubuntu on his home-built 3-core AMD 'puter, and plays piano like nobody's business.

                  Hello

I'm from St. Paul MN. Using this forum to fix a couple of busted flat screen monitors. Found lots of great information.

I've been in the PC network industry since the beginning. Now it seems that everyone just wants to hire kids that are just out of school. So, I'm digging deeper into fixing stuff and found myself at this wonderful site. Just reading and looking over everyone's shoulders has been very helpful. Thanks

Hi everyone, this is my first post ever. Are living in UK and have no electrical training whatsoever. Have many years experience (well messing about at best) with computers. Have built many computers for myself, family and close friends. My strength is building and repairing hardware (but not at component level), and sorting out software problems.I am 59 years old, am severely disabled with osteo arthritis, and in constant pain. I use computers to help control my pain, as the many tablets i take (including morphine) seems to have little effect. I might not be too much of a help to your site but will try to help if asked. Anyway i am pleased to be here.
                      Pete

                                  Hello Folks!
My name is Bill. I am 67 and a retired Engineering Specialist from the D.O.D. I have repair, design and Installation experience in many areas of the Electronic Field. These areas include telecommunication, RF, unit record equipment, fiber optics, computer repair and programming during the late 60 and 70's as well as integration of work stations in communication surveillance systems. I also rain a TV/VCR business from the mid 70's til it became too much of a task to stock dozens of boards. Retired from the Government and TV service in 1991 and started to dabble around with the home PC's and The Internet. My latest toy is a 1.5kw Photovoltaic system built onto a 12x20 shed. It's main function is to provide the ac for my train system using a bunch of batteries. I joined this forum to see if I could get a good suggestion for repair of my Vizio VW 42L LCD TV. Someone please advise me of the correct procedure to post my description of the problem. I am amenable to lend my expertise on this forum if I can. I admit that I have no experience in the mechanics of actually posting so please be kind. LOL

I got interested in chip level repairs about year ago, so I started doing this few month ago. I am in learning stage for now so any help I get from you is crucial

Greetings all. I'm new to the site and have already received some great advice as the result of a google search. That's how I found you. I don't have any experience in electronics, so more than likely, I'll be asking for help, not giving it. But as a lifelong builder, if anyone has a question about home construction, I'll be happy to help. My way of paying back. Best regards to all of you. Steve
