Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hello, my name is Igor.
what brought me to this forum was google search, after reading replies to posts I realized that this forum accumulated and condensed very wast knowledge of component level troubleshooting and repairs of electronics and computer motherboards, power supplies and monitors.
Enjoying to fix things that others rejected as not worth time to get involved.
Using soldering gun and multi-meter since 1978.

Hi, my name is Joel and Im in Vancouver Canada.

My first compy was a TI1000. If that actually counts? Started use of them with a appleII in school, you know, the green CRTs and 5" floppy (Canadian education system had a deal with apple, every school had apple11s). My first real computer was a 'Mind' Brand 286 intel. I think it had 20mb of RAM, it ran DOS and was 'the ducks guts'. I'm sure we all know where that comes from

I got in to electronics by repairing my band's PA, constantly. Found I have a knack for it. Never looked back. I've been repairing everything for as long as I can remember. Started mechanical, moved to engines and such and finally on to electricity by around the age of 16.

I worked myself up tot he point where I was R&Ding audio electronics for production. This was as microcontrollers were besoming very commonplace and analog controls were long gone.

Through it all i always made music. The PC had steadily been displacing all my kit until now all I have is a Mac, few preamps and an amp and speakers. Everything else is in a box. Along this journey, I somehow became one with computers. Not intentionally, but you need to know how to use you tools and fix them if you're going to proficient at making them do work. Ive repaired more computers than I can possibly remember. Hard and software.

And here I am. I now fix anything that someone will pay me to fix, as a living. Its a shit wage, but, it a living. I don't know it all, as some people who know me think, I do know how to find out though.

Hi community and thanks bad caps. I appreciate stuff like this as it's helped me along my way. I wasn't fortunate enough to have an opportunity to study after high school so books, experimentation, blue smoke and the internet has been my university.

      aftm

Hello, my name is George and I am from Greece. I work as a computer programmer but I recently started repairing televisions and phones as a means to increase my income. I have worked in a tv and hi-fi repair shop during the 90's. Now, trying to adapt to the new standards. Badcaps is a great source of knowledge and I hope to be able to both help and be helped in the future.

                          Hello,

I am new to this forum which I found already super interesting. I was looking information for troubleshooting my TV and I found already some hints here

I am an electronic engineer working for a semiconductor company and I am trying to fix things that get broken at home due to aging. Not so much hands-on experience on debugging PCBs so I would appreciate your guidance.

                            Hello,
I was looking for info on a TV problem when I found this forum and already I'm excited of the new knowledge I hope to gain. I've always wanted to repair something myself rather than pay someone else to do it for me. I don't have a strong background in electronics but l have built my own circuit boards and was a senior computer specialist for the federal government and I'm always trying to learn new things. So thank you for letting me learn from all of you.

                              Afternoon,

I'm David. I own an IT repair store in rural Queensland, Australia.
I've been into electronics since I was young. Having my business based around electronic repairs lets me buy all the good toys Can do BGA rework, as well as microsoldering and most things inbetween.

                              Nice to meet you all.

Hello to all from Brokit. I have spent a lot of time reading posts to diagnose a smart tv fault and it is my first attempt at a digital tv but have had experience on valve and analogue TV's in the good old days. A voltage is still a voltage and a signal still a signal. Reading previous threads I have identified the problem thanks to all those who contribute to the site for the informative information and support. Unfortunately the diagnosis is dire. Someone must have cleaned the screen and the liquid has damaged the led panel board attached to the screen which I am led to believe is unrepairable without a replacement screen. Scrapper! I hope to post a breakdown of the steps I followed on a new thread later to aid other members with a similar (sound but no picture) fault.

I have a decent collection of video game systems ranging from atari to intellivision up to playstation 4! Some of these older systems have needed some TLC over the years I've taken them apart to see what really goes on inside the machine. Thank you for allowing me to join this forum

Hi, I'm joining board since my Sceptre X42BV-FULL doesn't power on anymore. I bought cap kit and will try to fix. Already bought a new TV so this one will be a backup one.

If I cannot fix, it will be recycled. If fix works, I have spare TV to see and recoup a few dollars.
