Re: Samsung Syncmaster 214T - won't power on!
I see. Are you saying if I let it get cold again it will stop working again? That question might be hilarious to you I don't know. I don't have to take out the cap to heat it right? I can just point the hair dryer as close as possible to the cap and let it heat up then plug in the monitor to test, correct?
And if this works it will only work temporarily and it will go completely bad in some time. So I guess better to replace it anyway if it is indeed the culprit....

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 214T - won't power on!
I'll post here with those test results as soon as I can get my hands on a tool. Curious, why would heating it up with a hair dryer work?
I'm really hoping the little start up cap is the whole issue. I'll replace that asap. Any tips for cap buying? Just get an identical cap? 47uf 50v is what is printed on the side....Last edited by Scrootemz; 05-07-2014, 04:07 PM.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 214T - won't power on!
What about just replacing the small one first and trying it? Looks like the quicker/easier replacement. If it still doesn't work I'll replace the bigger one and will have to figure out what that white glue stuff under it is called and buy some of that as well..
You said that it should still give me something on screen and I don't get anything at all so maybe the lil bugger is the source of the whole problem....

Yes, he didn't change the big one or the smallest one close to it but I think he changed the rest.
As for the large green capacitor, it does bulge out the slightest little bit to the point where it could of just been designed that way. (I can't tell!) The other end of it is completely flat while the end you're referring to isn't. But again, can't tell if it's a problem or just how it's supposed to be.
I don't have either of those tools but I have a friend coming over sometime this weekend and...Last edited by Scrootemz; 05-07-2014, 02:46 PM.

Samsung Syncmaster 214T - won't power on!
Hello everyone! I own a Samsung Syncmaster 214T (previously used by my father) that will not power on anymore. I use my computer a lot and so it sees a lot of use. Many times before bed I will hit the power button on the front to turn it off, leaving my computer on. Also, the on/off switch in the back next to the plug was always switched "ON" for the entire duration it was mine. (In fact, I didn't know the switch existed until I went to disassemble it heh)
Anyway, before it was given to me by my dad 5 bulging capacitors were replaced by him while he was using it. He did...

Hello everyone! I signed up because I need some help troubleshooting and repairing a computer monitor. It's a Samsung Syncmaster 214T (yes, it's a little old..) but it's my baby and it just won't power on anymore! I want to fix it if possible. Alright, going to go make my thread now.
