Re: LG 60PV450 Plasma - Bad Control Board maybe?
I tried freezing some caps, starting with the bigger one's in the upper left of the picture, and no change, but it generates a lot of moisture around the area, which is scaring me that something's going to short, so stopping for now. I don't want to zap the board. I'm dubious it's the main board anyway because of the logic board showing the weird (red/gray) test pattern cycle with no other colors -without- the main board connected.
Does anyone know what the full test pattern should look like--I'm thinking it should be...

Re: LG 60PV450 Plasma - Bad Control Board maybe?
Sooo... Gonna try this today (got to get some canned air) but... do you actually freeze the cap with power on to the TV? Isn't there a danger of moisture shorting something? From what I've seen, it looks like a big area of the circuit board gets iced.

Re: LG 60PV450 Plasma - Bad Control Board maybe?
Interesting--I'll give that a try. I'm was assuming though, since the test pattern seemed weird (red and white only) - with the main board disconnected -- that there's something outside of it causing the problem. But I'm up for anything at this point!

LG 60PV450 Plasma - Bad Control Board maybe?
Thanks so much for this site! Can't tell you how helpful it's been!
I'm finally back to working on my "Dumpster-TV" which initially just showed a solid green screen, but after replacing the Main board it worked--more or less. It never turned on perfectly--it would require several unplug/replug/turn-on cycles until it "caught", then it was fine. It got worse and worse, until now it seems never to "catch".
The symptom is the red standby light which is solid when power is plugged in, goes to a slow blink when "ON" is pressed...

LG 60PV450 EBT vs EAX number?
I'm confused about the versions of the Main boards for a LG 60PV450 60 inch plasma. Can one assume if the EAX number is the same, the EBT number will work to replace a main board with a different EBT number?
This one's numbers are:
EAX63728604(4)
EBT61663001
I'm seeing EBAY sellers with boards from the same tv (60pv450) with the same EAX number... but different (or unspecified) EBT numbers and wondering if they will work...?
Just wondering if anyone has experience here?

Replace heat sink (or add fan) tips?
I've seen several posts advising replacing the heat sink on various boards (in my case it's for the main board on a 60pv450 lg plasma (attached). Any general advice on where to get heat sinks that are improvements over the old one? Last thing I want to do is make it worse than before--is "bigger" all I'm trying to go with here? Also--is putting a fan in worth the effort--and any advice on what kind of fan and how to attach / wire it in?...

Re: Zenith / LG parts interchangeable?
That's good to know. Still... switching version numbers doesn't scare me as much as actual brand names of the tvs they came from. ...

Ah. Didn't think of that--but I have a spare harmony remote so that shouldn't be a problem....

Zenith / LG parts interchangeable?
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has used parts from "rebranded" Zeniths with LG TVs. I have an LG 60pv450 that needs a new main board.
Evidently, the Zenith Z60PV220. is a rebranded version of that LG.
My Main board is:
LG60PV450 MAIN BOARD -- Board #: EAX63728604 PT#: EBT61663001
The Zenith one I'm looking at has the same board #, but different part #:
Z60PV220 MAIN BOARD -- Board #: EAX63728604 PT#: EBT61397497
Just wondering if I should expect it to work, or if's somehow locked to LG.

Re: LG 60pv450 - test pattern mean z-y subs OK?
When I first got this tv, after replacing a fuse, it only had standby--no video at all, no pattern, and no buttons worked. After first try with heat gun (low setting, 4 or 5 minutes moving over most components but concentrating on the main chip) it got to this state--sound, and green screen when there's no signal (goes black when there IS signal on hdmi) and working test pattern.
Tried two more times with the heat gun, low setting, a few minutes longer, but no change.
I see replacement boards at around $100.00...

Re: LG 60pv450 - test pattern mean z-y subs OK?
I think you're right--I was just wondering if the experts on this board consider a good test pattern enough to absolutely, positively conclude it CAN'T be the z and y sub boards.
(I actually ran a heat gun on the main board earlier, by the way, which got me from no video at all to my current situation. I'm going to try it again.)

LG 60pv450 - test pattern mean z-y subs OK?
I have a hopefully quick question regarding test patterns. I have a 60pv450 LG Plasma.
The test pattern jumper gives me perfect test patterns. Buttons respond, but without the test pattern jumper in, I get a green, pixelated screen with illegible menus (with sound) on any port without signal, and dark screen on those ports with signal applied. Unplugging z and y subs together or individually, still hear the sound, but dark (no green screen).
My question is--since I get a perfect test pattern (with the jumper in the control board) does that mean the z and y sub cards...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello from Tampa fl! I've been reading Badcaps for years, but never posted--but may need to soon. I've repaired a few tvs now by replacing caps, all from info on this most excellent site, though I'm pretty much a complete novice when it comes to electronics.
