Re: Sceptre X322BV-HD - No Power
I rigged a new fuse and it blew instantly when I connected power, so I'll have to try and do the bridge rectifier/MOSFET testing you mention.
Thanks for the help so far.

Re: Sceptre X322BV-HD - No Power
Any advice on how to check other parts? Nothing else looks damaged, and the underside of the board isn't blackened either. Could the failing caps have caused a short big enough to blow the fuse?

Re: Sceptre X322BV-HD - No Power
Looks like, through ignorance, I've made a liar of myself. I get no continuity through the fuse, and, pulling back the shrinkwrap, it looks blackened inside.
Thanks for your patience and persistence. I'll order a new one and replace it and go from there. Pretty foolish of me to replace so many capacitors without doing a thorough troubleshooting first.

I don't see one either.
Are there LCD TV manufacturers who omit them?...

Re: Sceptre X322BV-HD - No Power
The image I attached with the highlighted caps is 100% post replacement. I looked through my photos and the only one I have pre-replacement is one of the big boy which was definitely bulging....

Re: Sceptre X322BV-HD - No Power
I put the DMM across both legs and it reads 0. So does this likely mean there is an open circuit somewhere before it?

Re: Sceptre X322BV-HD - No Power
So I mounted the PSU and plugged the main power harness into it, but none of the smaller connectors. I put the DMM on the +5 and 5VSB and the GND pins and it read 0. I tried all the pins and they all read 0.
Which cap is the main filter cap? I tried going across both legs of the huge cap and got 0 there as well.

Sceptre X322BV-HD - No Power
A co-worker found this TV on the curb by his house and pulled it for me. I inspected it and the panel looked undamaged. I plugged it in and it had no signs of power at all. I opened it up and found the classic bulging capacitor issue. I ordered replacements for the bulging caps and replaced them. I plugged it in and, again, no power signs whatsoever (no LED, no "click").
I searched on this forum and found someone with a similar model who had a similar issue, so I extrapolated mine from theirs and ordered/replaced some more capacitors on the PSU. Tried it again and no dice....

Re: Samsung PN50A510 P3FXZA Plasma Cycling On/Off
Just wanted to chime in that I've got the same Samsung set
and replacing C102 with the Digikey part worked for me as well.
Insane to me that such a seemingly insignificant part
can have such a massive influence on the function of the set.
Thank you so much.
It was the first SMD component I've ever replaced,
though I've done a fair few through-hole capacitors and whatnot in the past.
It was a little nerve-wracking, but I got it done,
just not the prettiest job.

Samsung HL56A650 DLP Chip - Worth Replacing?
I picked up a Samsung HL56A650 DLP TV for free off Craigslist today.
The seller said it looked "snowy".
Brought it home and, sure enough, there are stuck white pixels all over,
but it otherwise looks like it works fine
(I was able to play Netflix through it no problem).
Doing a bit of research, it looks like the DLP chip is bad.
The downside is that the DLP chip is like $180+ USD. Ouch.
[B]So, as this is a TV from 2008, but is 1080p and seems decent,
do y'all think it would be worthwhile to invest $200-ish...

Confirming Fault with Samsung PN50C550G1FXZA Plasma
Hello folks,
I picked up a Samsung PN50C550G1FXZA 50" plasma off Craigslist today
where the listed fault was "no picture, sound still works".
I took it home and opened it up and couldn't spot any faulty caps
or other parts that were clearly toast.
I plugged it in and turned it on,
only to hear a sparking sound and a wisp of smoke
coming from an IC on the lower part of the far-left circuit board,
which has ribbon connectors up and down the length of the screen.
Looking at the panel itself,...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello everyone,
I'm Dave. I've worked for Apple in the past,
and have a pretty good history of repairing LCDs and electronics in general.
This seems like a useful place for finding others with experience
to help troubleshoot and diagnose/fix problems.
