Re: Dell 2005FPW Flickering - Seeking Tech Advice
Perfect! Thank you both. And I appreciate the diagram, Agent24. That will help out a great deal! Will post results when I get around to trying this out!

Re: Dell 2005FPW Flickering - Seeking Tech Advice
Hi Agent24- sounds good. I'll have to try this after I hack open more cfls. Still unclear though about which leads I should solder to the long adapters as they have four prongs each. Unless I'm mstaken and you're saying the long adapters take 2 CFLs. I guess that would make sense if the display uses 6 lamps.Last edited by w201; 06-13-2015, 08:36 AM.

Re: Dell 2005FPW Flickering - Seeking Tech Advice
Got it. Okay here's two more questions; I hacked open one 14W CFL. Do I need to hack open three more for a total of four bulbs so they're all connected at the same time? And would you be able to tell me which leads I should solder based on the nubmers that are on the board?

Re: Dell 2005FPW Flickering - Seeking Tech Advice
Okay, just so I'm clear, there's four different connectors on the backside (two are long and two are short), should I solder the cfl to each connector until I find the one that's bad?

Re: Dell 2005FPW Flickering - Seeking Tech Advice
Found out ccfl tubes are replaceable but is there way to test to verify they're bad before I disassemble? On a side note- I did mention the display flickering...but I don't know if that's how to accurately describe the problem.
I would say that a more accurate description is it repeatedly turns on and off- like it wants to turn on but can't- I never actually see a picture on the display, but I know that it's trying to turn on because the LED's also go on/off. Sorry if that's confusing.

The ccfl tubes are on the actual display not the circuit boards correct? Are those fixable at all?...

Dell 2005FPW Flickering - Seeking Tech Advice
Greetings All,
My Dell 2005FPW display is getting to the point where it's unusable. Back panel is off. I can solder, but not good at troubleshooting. Hoping to get some tech help.
The display itself does this thing where it will flickers on and off, sometimes it manages to stay on, other times it gives up and dies. Sometimes it will flicker on and off for 10 or 20 minutes and I manually pull the power cord out of sheer annoyance.
A little bit of searching and my uneducated guess says that it's the capacitors. This monitor has a great picture but from...

Re: Bricked TC-P42U2 - Seeking Tech Advice
Sorry about that, I may have misread some of your information, I'll read over. BTW- I also emailed the guy asking for clarification and he basically got back to me with, "what's a soft touch power button?"
Back to square one. I guess I can contact Modus too see what my options are....

Nice little profit you made for yourself there. I'm definitely going to haggle with the guy if I go that route. Now that I know what the problem is, I'm trying to decide if I want to drop another $150 on this plasma or go with a 4K TV. My partner is in on the decision making as well so we'll have to see what she thinks ...

Re: Bricked TC-P42U2 - Seeking Tech Advice
tw2005- my board reads TNPH0831A3, so I think the ebay seller mad a mistake in his description or possibly used a stock photo as you pointed out... but his board is also TNPH0831A3, so it should be a correct match?
What's a fair price for a used board like this? I'll make him an offer but I don't want to lowball the guy.
I have the back panel off and a manual, so I'll see if I can figure out how to test the LED board.
Thank you for the different perspectives, all of you have been a tremendous...

Re: Bricked TC-P42U2 - Seeking Tech Advice
So that would be the A board I just tested? Can you guys recommend a place where I could possibly track one down? I checked eBay but not seeing relevant results and most of the boards I'm seeing on there are used.
This may be a matter of personal preference, but depending on how costly these boards are, is it even worth fixing? I paid $600 for the set 5 years back, and if I have to drop another $200 on a board... tw2005 did mention they are hard to find.Last edited by w201; 05-31-2015, 10:17 AM.

You're talking to a complete amateur here. I have a multimeter at my disposal so I can try a few of your suggestions and report back, but can you go into details on where to go to check for 5v stdby voltage?
Caleb- thanks for the guide, will have a read....Last edited by w201; 05-30-2015, 09:24 PM.

Bricked TC-P42U2 - Seeking Tech Advice
Greetings all,
I've got a 5 YO Panasonic TC-P42U2 that was working fine until yesterday. At first there was no picture but the TV menu and red LED power button light was still visible, a few hours later, no signs of life AT ALL. completely bricked. Haven't attempted any troubleshooting at all other than disconnecting the SS board cables, reconnecting and giving it another go, but nothing. Something note worthy is that in the 5 years that I've owned this set, I've never seen it do a self poweroff until the day I started having issues... correlation?
I've seen quite a bit...Last edited by w201; 05-30-2015, 08:13 PM.
