Re: HP "Smart(ass)" power bricks
Wanted to moddify another dock to use in second place with the same laptop, so far using 10k and 2k4 resistor makes it throttle to 133-266 MHz!!! I've upgraded to P9700 since which would explain this change in behaviour too. So one must most likely really mimic the correct resistance. I can confirm measuring on 65W brick it is those 383k.
ADD// 100k resistor did the trick, now works with 65W and 120W bricks so it's safe to asume it will also work with 90W brick and around 90W-ish two-wire bricks using an adapter. Remember that...

Re: High-ambient-temp smoke sensor recommendation
that is one of the solutions - when somebody uses their brains and prepares the installation BEFORE everything is finished the sauna is pretty much done, there's one spare cable in position (though wrong, PVC on sauna ceiling, where there is as much as 110 °C while in operation?!)
we'll most likely install second original HEAT sensor (not that it's much of use IMO) and possibly put ordinary smoke detecter from outside, over the door
I've searched instensively, found pretty much nothing over 70 °C, all...

High-ambient-temp smoke sensor recommendation
Not sure if this is the best section, so feel free to move it. I'm tasked to get some "safety device" in case something goes wrong to insure a dry sauna does not burn again. This time the wall with stove on it has been covered with mineral insulation material as well as linings. (Harvia states their stove can be mounted directly on wooden walls! get that! ).
Idiots wired extra (UTP, get that second time ) cable to the sauna ceiling. Is there ANY smoke detector which could survive on the ceiling with up to 100 (120?) °C there, or just all those house...

Re: New caps on stock
First batch of Rubycons as replacement for them chemicon dickheads arrived with PX (standard) 3.3/100, 33/63 and also ZLQ 4700/6.3 in D10(!!)x25 mm package, suitable for ATX power supplies.

Re: New caps on stock
Expanded further with Kemets R46 (miniaturised) X2 film caps. The (in)availability of anything modern (e.g. in decent sizes), quality, long-life for decent prices in this (becoming) third-world country forced me into getting to film caps too

Re: Sound through modern Radeons?
use onboard sound codec?
momaka: even that R5 is laughably slow, why on earth I'd get even slower card? it was meant for gaming, even though mild
BTW that R5 is unable to run the VRAM on that overclocked frequency any longer, so, when I get to that, I'll change the clocks back to the original ones of 1000 MHz/GPU, 1800 MHz/VRAM (currently its 900/2000 MHz) of R7 250, that's what the card actually is. It is actually even faster on that setting, go figure.
That prick from UK stopped responding when I confirmed...Last edited by piernov; 05-01-2023, 09:52 AM.

Re: New caps on stock
Four new wet aluminium electrolytics models have been added - long life NCC LE series, 1/100, 3.3/100, 33/50 and 100/50.
Also expanded into whole new area of SMD ceramics pith PDCs/Walsins FS series, X7R electrolyte, 1206 size, 10/25.

Re: Trouble with Daker DK 3000 UPS
it's TO-220-2L part, 8 A/1200 V, you should find it easily
should be on HV side (likely PFC), attached to some heatsink, and most other parts looking as TO-247 and similar packages, just have a look around

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
too lazy to take pics, but it never ceases to amaze me what could get screwed by using bad caps…I'm in the process of refurbishing ceiling lights with radar-based sensor, all together with E27 socket put into single (removable, held via 4 screws) plastic module in those lights
in pretty much all of them (25 units), some of two 100/16 and single 22/25 caps are bad, quite often all three of them, often having ESR as high as 150 ohms; all three are GP parts, sometimes rated just 85 °C, but even 105 °C, they all get...Last edited by Behemot; 03-12-2023, 07:56 AM.

Re: 2700uF instead of 3300uF
If we are talking low-ESR (not ultra-low ESR like those on later PC motherboards), I do have both Chemi-Cons KYA and KYB 3300/6.3 on stock, they differ in life endurance, ESR/ripple current and size (KYA 5 mm shorter). Also do have SOME ultra-low ESR caps, or you may try polymodding it arround the CPU. Why didn't you check first?Re: 2700uF instead of 3300uF

Re: Chemi-con ends production of large part of caps
since they've already started creating problems even though new orders should still be accepted, I've started ordering Rubycon PX as general-purpose series to keep on stock
it helped that over the years, competing distributor got himself insurance for payment inability (of his customers) so now I could order with payment-after-delivery right away, besides, Rubycon currently has 13 weeks faster delivery, that makes a difference (only if I knew that sooner )Re: Chemi-con ends production of large part of capsLast edited by Behemot; 03-10-2023, 09:50 AM.

Re: APC UPS units - troubleshooting
dammit looks like me response was not sent
transformers rarely go bad and pretty much always are custom part, it's more likely some of them SMD components under it went bad, I'd say start with those diodes and resistors near the divider, around TP6 and 7?

Re: Sound through modern Radeons?
through HDMI for sure, by definition, what I was not sure about were the DVI-HDMI adapters, thanks for confirming m8
