Re: Corsair SP2500 parts information required
The chip has GM marked on it after the 3843. The -E1 was added by some Google searches. It's the right current mode PWM controller though.
On this board, it's the current sense line to pin 3 that has fried and taken the chip with it. What is bothering me now is what caused the current surge, that fried the track?

Re: Corsair SP2500 parts information required
I've had the PSU board of a Corsair SP2500 handed to me for repair. The 3843GM-E1 has died with one of the legs (pin 3) having had the track lift from the heat of the failure, along with three resistors (two large, one small) that died on the other side of the board.
From looking at photos of other SP2500 boards in various stages of death, I have worked out that the possible values for the two large resistors are 0.22 Ohm and 56 Ohm, with the two smaller resistors being rated at 1k Ohm and 220k Ohm.
Can...

Re: Own Custom Build Computer With ECS Motherboard-No POST
I don't wish to devalue your efforts with this board, however, ECS (Elitegroup) bopards have always been cheap, nasty and troublesome. A long time ago, a friend of mine bought an ECS motherboard to upgrade (sic) his PC and the first message 5that we got on booting up with a Windows 95 CD in it was that the board needed a BIOS update before it would even install Win 95. We got the BIOS update and eventually got Win 95 installed, but the board crashed randomly and it was never fully stable whatever we did with it.

Re: What's enhanced DPI with Laser printers?
Not only that, some HP cartridges have a page counter chip in them and the printers can detect non-HP clone or recycled cartridges, as the chip used won't be OEM. It seems that they went the same was as Epson did and tried to lock things down.

Re: HP pavilion 15-p074TX
Three blinks means that the charger isn't communicating with the laptop. The HP charger has three pins - two supply the 19.5v to charge the laptop (the outer metal contact and the inner coaxial one just inside the plug) whilst the third centre pin determines the frequency and rate of charging - it's a charge sensor circuit..
I know this because I hacked the plug off the charger of my wife's Pavilion 6G laptop and soldered it onto an older HP charger as a temporary measure, just so I could prove that the laptop wasn't FUBAR'd. It charged,...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
HI, I am Merlin_AmiBay aka Dave and I am one of the founders and Admins of the retro computer forum called AmiBay. Please take the time to pop over there if your interests also include retro computers and consoles.
My dad used to fix TVs when he was younger and I followed in his footsteps, by repairing old computers, VCRs and other electronic stuff over the years. I have joined here to bring myself up to date with more modern sets as my Dad's Toshiba flatscreen lost it's backlight today and a quick internet search...
