Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
Well, the United Chemi-con caps arrived 2 weeks ago, and I finally got around to installing them, the TV fired right up and works great.

I wanted to post these images of my repositioning of the capacitors away from the sources of heat to defeat the auto-croak, intentionally roast the capacitors to death design. I used blue RTV silicone (rated to 400° F) on the capacitor leads to avoid any chance of the leads shorting out. I decided not to install a fan, it shouldn't need it.

Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
Oops, my bad, I must have gotten distracted. I meant the 5V on the TV power supply.
The noise I don't mind, I'm used to it. I have a 6 inch 12V maglev running at 7.5 volts blowing down warm air from the ceiling and it is still loud... a po' boy ceiling fan, the ceiling is too low here for an actual ceiling fan.
But I've been running it for 7 years now, just have to clean it every so often. I've also been running 2 other maglev laptop fans only slightly larger than those laptop fans for...

Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
I appreciate the info, but I already ordered. I found that there is easily enough room to bend them over so they orient horizontally instead of vertically. I also found that I have 2 of these tiny maglevs laying around. Pulls only .06A, so I should be able to wire one right into the 12V of the TV power supply and cool off that area of the board.Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE

Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
Excellent advice. The lower RPMs should keep the dust buildup to a minimum too.
This might also be a good idea, but I have to see if there is enough clearance on the solder side of the board. When mounted, there is only a small clearance to the metal back of the display panel....Last edited by nfadel; 01-21-2016, 08:38 PM.

Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
I've never encountered any problems moving them off the board, but I've always avoided routing the wires near inductors.
Sometimes you have to consider the unknown values introduced by heat roasting though, too. A carbonized board eventually equals a short circuit. My current power supply board:

Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
Found what I was looking for, at wikipedia of all places! Very detailed descriptions of aluminum electrolytics.
Perhaps this info can help someone else in the future: When replacing caps, try to get replacements with as high a ripple current as possible. A high ripple current rating automatically equates to low ESR and lower operating temperature. Also, for each 10 degree C increase in operating temperature, a capacitor's lifespan is cut in half, so for long life it is really better to relocate the larger (or all...

Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
I searched those links for Chang and elsewhere for CD288HE and the specs only say high frequency, low ESR. But no values are given.
I understand the value of ESR being low, but what is ripple current, and how important is it? If I cannot find the original ripple current specs, what is the best shot in the dark here for use in this TV power supply (all on the cold side)?
I decided to move the 2 taller 1000uF 35V caps off the power supply board to a vented location because the board had heat discoloration...

Re: Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
My uninterruptible power supply battery died. So, I go to the auto scrapyard to get a $20 car battery sized deep cycle battery to replace the puny $15 3 Ah UPS battery. All they had this time though were 4 huge $30 deep cycle batteries, and I didn't want to spend the $30 they wanted for one of those. But then I noticed a pallet of dead batteries destined to be scrapped for the lead, and wandered over to look at it. On top of the pallet were numerous rows of 7 Ah and 8 Ah UPS batteries. I took out my meter, and found a large number...

Re: IPOs 150 Polaroid TDA-03211C bad diode D10 question
I wonder if using the existing DO-201AD package HER303 / HER304 replacement diode by soldering a copper heatsink to each end as shown and relocating it off the power supply board somewhere next to a cooling inlet vent would provide enough extra heat dissipation?

IPOs 150 Polaroid TDA-03211C bad diode D10 question
I would appreciate any assistance from anyone who has experience with this set and this problem.
It has a shorted diode D10, a common problem, design flaw causes D10 death when the VGA input is used. As per this post it was said that the board and TV can be powered up if D10 is removed. Apparently, D10 connects the transformer secondary to 20V on the header that goes to the tuner / input board.
If I replace the diode it should work again according to others experiences. However,...

Re: Westinghouse LD4655VX overly sensitive buttons
Try sticking a metal plate, preferably grounded, between the location of the panel and the wall. It might be EMF from a power line running inside the wall, and blocking it with a thin grounded steel plate will tell. Best to keep that TV away from heat sources for longer life.

Need cap replacementt advice Chang CD288H / HE
COBY TFTV4025 40" TV, stobing / flashing fluorescent tubes, found 4 bulging caps in the power supply:
Chang CD288H 220uF 35V
Chang CD288H 1000uF 16V
Chang CD288HE 1000uF 35V (2 of these)
all rated -40C 105C
I was all ready to go to digikey and order some Panasonic FC like I have in the past to fix Dell monitors and then I read in the forums here that matching the ESR and ripple current is important.
I looked through the specs list available here and couldn't find this Chang series, and google and yandex result sites only...

Re: Ghetto mod Polariod TDA-03211C need help
The TV inverter / power supply board is fried, don't feel like fixing it, and it would prevent me from mounting the large laptop base inside if I left it in there. Using bulb bases would be cheap and quick and probably reliable. I will go the universal LCD driver route if I have to....
