• Re: Seasonic 300 OEM using Su'scon

I'm not sure, and it's all packed away in its home now.

I deleted the full res pics and I can't make it out ones I do have, a bit too dark down there....

This is for a clients machine so I won't be messing with it. Adda fans have been pretty reliable for me in the past...

Yeah I'll post the pics there too. I just thought I would create a separate thread since a lot of people (myself included) go with Seasonic by default, hopefully these caps are alright....

  • Seasonic 300 OEM using Su'scon

I just picked up a 300 watt OEM Seasonic 80+ Bronze PSU from the Egg and noticed there wasn't any "void if remove" stickers so I thought I'd open it up. Looks like a pretty good design some new additions that I haven't seen in the regular 80+ versions but I didn't recognize the caps on the output side. They are all "Su'scon, I expected maybe OST or Teapo, the input cap is a Hitachi.

Some searching reveals that these were problematic caps at least in the past. Hopefully they have gotten better and Seasonic hasn't take a turn for the worse with their OEM units.

  • Re: MSI 845PE Max-L

In case anyone was curious this story did have a happy ending...

I ended going with Rubycons from Topcat, enough for every Teapo on the board. I suppose I could have saved a bit and went with something from Digikey but this being part of a security system that could be in service for quite awhile I figured the Rubycons were justified.

The recap went fine aside from the one cap by the PS2 ports being a 400uf 16v cap. You couldn't read the value due to how it was positioned so luckily I noticed after it was pulled. That cap went back...

  • MSI 845PE Max-L

I have a MSI P4 845PE Max that is the basis of a security surveillance system that is suffering from reboots. I found the culprit to be two failed Teapo 6.3v 1000uf caps located near the AGP slot, see below. The system was adequately cooled (loud) and dust was not a factor due to a filter on the intake. The caps around the CPU are UCC and Panasonic and look fine.

Thats for the suggestion davmax, that sounds like a good next step. One that I would probably take if this was a nicer/newer monitor but it isn't...

As it is it's fine as backup monitor, it only has startup troubles when it's really cold (sub 60f).Re: A Tale of Two Dead Viewsonic VA720s

Yeah, when it's cold it gets an image for split second and then nothing. I can tell it's th backlight because if I can still see the picture If I shine a flashlight on the panel.

I'm just using this as a backup display anyway so I think I'll call it good....

  • Re: A Tale of Two Dead Viewsonic VA720s

So I successfully fixed the 2nd Viewsonic, actually a couple of weeks ago...

I went with Panasonic FC from Digikey since Topcat didn't have Samxon in one of the values needed in the correct size. Sadly due to a typo on the order form I ordered the wrong caps for the Elite 470uf 25vs so I ended up only replacing the known bad 1000uf cap, oh well . Here are the finished results.

What about Samxon caps? I was thinking of getting my caps straight from Badcaps.net.

    Here are the values...

Brown Elite x1 1000uf 10v (the blown one)
    Black Elite x3 470uf 25v
    Black Elite x1 330uf 16v

Obviously the brown 1000uf cap has to go but should I also replace the 470 and 330 caps or are those small enough to not worry about?

It receives power but the LED indicator flashes on and off so it's not operating in a normal power on state.

You can see the caps in the OP. The only visible bad one is the 10v brown cap. There are two smaller black ones I was going to replace also just to be safe, 16v 470 uf I believe (I don't think you can see the value in the pics). I'll post the exact values tomorrow....

  • Re: A Tale of Two Dead Viewsonic VA720s

Yeah, these Viewsonics were nothing special when they were brand new 4 years ago so I'm done messing with that one.

I have the NEC now and to my surprise when I plugged it in to see what happens it powered on just fine, both DVI and VGA. Only negative is a couple of scratches on the panel from sitting in the garage but they aren't too bad.

Now I just have to get some replacement caps for the other Viewsonic.

I had that thought too but the LED flashes green which would seem to indicate something isn't working properly. The other model with the failed cap goes right into standby with the typical amber color. Besides if it's the back light it's probably not worth fixing that that point.

Haha, I knew what he meant but thanks .Re: A Tale of Two Dead Viewsonic VA720s

Well I replaced the end on the power adapter for the 2nd display but the monitor is still dead. It dose get power; the LED turns on and then blinks green but the display never lights up. I'm assuming this one is a lost cause?

I'll be tackling the other Viewsonic next. In addition a friend of mine had a pretty nice 19" NEC die on him so I'll take a look that to see if anything can be done.

  • A Tale of Two Dead Viewsonic VA720s

A co-worker of mine had two dead identical Viewsonic VA720 LCD monitors that she was going to toss out unless I wanted them. So rather than being tossed into the junk heap I reluctantly took them on.

Now despite being identical models and being purchased at the same time the two panels are actually completely different on the inside.

Sample one; this unit turns on and powers up with a "no signal" message for about 1 second, then the power indicator turns amber indicating standby but it physically stays on. I've opened the unit up and I believe I've found...

  • Re: ECS SF2/661FX with Panasonic and Sanyo - why?

Perhaps they share engineers. It seems from time to time they seem to take a hiatus from the enthusiast market. Currently their line up is pretty sparse, they only just released a Core2 775 board and there is nothing for AM2.

AOpen is usually my first choice, one of the reasons being their quality in cap selection. I've used all kinds of socket A AOpen boards almost all of them have either Rubycon, Chemicon, or Panasonic, even the older first gen Athlon boards. The exemption being two boards that had...

There is a black version which would match black drives perfectly, black drives also look quite good against anodized silver AL in my opinion.

If you want a perfect match they also sell AL 5 1/4 optical covers....
