Re: ESR meter upgrades
I used mine the other day to confirm a suspicion that the mains filter caps on a device weren't performing as they should. Sure enough the test showed they were 50% of their rated value, I swapped them out, all was good after that.

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
I need to borrow something to measure the original chips dimensions, my old wooden ruler won't cut it!
I've singled out three other alternative chips that have the same pin out, the last one is also a Ti, didn't see that one when I searched before

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
Well it looks like the TPA2039 is noticeably smaller than the original chip in all dimensions, so the one fitted to the Vox Mini 3 G1 is perhaps not a Ti IC? The BGA foot print is therefore a little smaller, however, it is just about OK to use.
I heated the back side of the chip location for a short period then flipped it over and placed the new chip on the tinned pads, with a little hot air it nudged itself into place and all was good on the first pass.
Happy to report the amp is working fine, I didn't hear it working originally so I...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
If I prep the board, use plenty of flux and let the balls on the supplied chip find their location it should be OK, it's only 9 balls after all, it could be worse! I have a fairly high power magnifying glass so I can at least look at the outside edge and I can also check for shorts before powering up.
I have ten tries to get it right

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
I did start to go through the sample process but they wanted me to fill in some extra forms and explain what my business was, why I wanted them, etc. I gave up at that point
Mouser/Digikey worked out very expensive with shipping, thankfully I found a seller on Aliexpress so I've bought 10 at half the price of 3! I went for the 3.2Watt version in the end.
There's a square section of solder under the chip on the reverse side of the board (for heat sinking I guess?), I pre-heated it with a soldering iron for...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
I think the TPA2034 is rated at 2.75w, the TPA2039 is 3.2w, I suppose the TPA2034 is a better fit power consumption wise so I should go for that.
I've got the old one off the board cleanly, now to find a replacement at reasonable cost!

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
midibob, can I be cheeky and ask the part number used for the IC? I see mouser has two;
TPA2039D1YFFR
and
TPA2039D1YFFT
I think the only difference is THD.
Thanks.

Thank you for the files, came in handy the other day.

Re: Keyboard help
Corsair keyboards are pretty robust, even the entry level priced ones, I've used one for some time now, a Raptor K40. Other than occasionally cleaning it and putting a little silicone lube on the odd sticky key it's been perfect.

Re: APC UPS units - troubleshooting
Some units require a battery to work, some don't and are hot swappable. Those ones are pretty cheap so I'd imagine it just needs a decent battery.

Re: RUNTK 5351TP No Picture Failure
I did try a temp sensor in the air flow, it was almost correct, but only very close to the exit of the nozzle, it dropped off quite quickly a cm or two away from the very tip.

Re: First QFN removal with budget solder Huakko station 998D
I had some very thin watery flux, it wasn't much use. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be getting some of that tacky Amtech stuff.
I used the smallest nozzle in the kit, bog standard kinda thing, quite low air speed (setting 2 of 8), spent plenty of time bringing the board up to temp.
Kapton tape on your plastic connectors should protect them from the worst of the heat.Re: First QFN removal...
