Re: Philips 42PFL5432D/37 power supply issue no 12v
I tested ZD908 in circuit and it's not shorted. Checked C957 and it's not open, neither is R974

Philips 42PFL5432D/37 power supply issue no 12v
I have a Philips TV that shows no signs of life when plugged in - no standby LED, no response to buttons, no noises, nothing. This model is well known for having bad caps, so I started by replacing a few of them (3x 35v 1500uf and 1x 2200uf 16v). I don't know the history of the TV but it looks like someone's been at it before because some of the solder joints looked really bad, so I re soldered them as well.
After swapping the caps I still got no signs of life so I started checking voltages, and found that the board is supplying 24v but not 12v. Here's what I measured on the connector...

Re: Westinghouse LD-4285 stuck in stanby, short on mainboard?
Sorry for the delay, I finally got another chance to look at the board. I was able to remove the blue regulator and pad 2 is still shorted to ground. I also tried freezing U13, no change. Will try heating both U13 and the capacitors with a hairdryer later tonight and see if anything changes.
I also attached a pic of the label on U13 for Diah...

Westinghouse LD-4285 stuck in stanby, short on mainboard?
When the TV is plugged in the red standby LED comes on and nothing else... it won't respond to any of the buttons. I don't get any other signs of life from the TV.
I know that a few similar Westinghouse models had an issue where the backlight ribbon cables would short out against the LCD frame, but I have tried turning it on with the backlight ribbons disconnected and nothing changes. I also partially disassembled the panel to inspect the ribbons and they look fine, I even added some electrical tape to insulate them from the frame just to be safe.
This TV has just...

Re: LG 49UF6400 tint on half of screen + no OSD?
I added the TCON to my watch list, but I don't want to spend money on this TV just yet because I still haven't figured out why it won't display an OSD. Surely the TCON has nothing to do with it, right?
I also noticed that the two chips I circled in the picture got VERY hot even though the TV had been running for less than 30 minutes. Seems strange that they would generate that much heat in so little time, especially considering that the TV wasn't running built in apps or doing anything "demanding"...

LG 49UF6400 tint on half of screen + no OSD?
Hi all,
I have a LG 49UF6400 with two issues. The first is a colored tint on the left side of the screen. The color of the tint depends, but I've seen red, green, and purple so far. I can see a normal image behind the tint as shown in the photos. The tinted side flashes rapidly between "normal" and "tinted"
I suspected either the panel or the TCON, so I tested the TV with one of the panel cables disconnected. With the left side unplugged, the left half of the screen is white and the right is black. With the right unplugged, the left has vertical bars and...

Re: Sony KDL-52W5100 verticle lines
Thanks for the input. Surprisingly the TV has been working just fine ever since Friday. I haven't put it back together though because I'm afraid that, like you said, the issues will come back. I've been through this before where this TV will work for up to a week then go out again. You mentioned a possible issue with voltages inside the TV, is there a way I could test for this next time the picture goes out?

Re: Sony KDL-52W5100 verticle lines
Thanks for the help everyone. I powered up the TV again - vertical lines. This is the first time I've turned it on since I took picture #5 were the screen was perfect. I didn't mess with the cables or anything in between, it just stopped working as far as I can tell.
I decided to reseat the ribbon cables (trying my best to get the alignment perfect) and this time the picture was broken up horizontally (among other things). I took a video to show what's going on, I'll put a link below. In the video you can hear a high-pitched whine...

Re: Sony KDL-52W5100 verticle lines
I took some more pictures as requested in post #6. I'll explain them further below.
Pictures #1 and #2
I took these a few days ago. In the first picture the left side of the panel is disconnected, in the second the right side. I find this very interesting because the panel worked exactly as expected: the disconnected side was black, and the connected side displays a non-distorted image.
#3
I took this one today. The left side of the panel (when looking at the TV from the front) is disconnected,...Last edited by Ifixstuff9; 04-02-2020, 01:35 PM.

Re: Sony KDL-52W5100 verticle lines
So I had initially suspected the TCON as well but when the TV is in its vertical line state with one half of the panel disconnected, you can still see faint vertical lines in the disconnected half....

Sony KDL-52W5100 verticle lines
Hello everyone,
I've been working on a Sony KDL-52W5100 that has a seemingly randomly occurring issue with vertical lines on the screen. These line span across the entire panel depending on what is being displayed, they aren't limited to just one area. The weird thing is, sometimes the TV will power on and display a perfect picture. When working, it will run for hours with no issues. Other times, the screen will be distorted from the second it powers on. When the lines are present you can sometimes hear a high pitched whine.
I tried disconnecting the cables that...

Re: Element ELEFW401A No Power - suspected bad powersupply
Well I thought I'd update this thread in case anyone else has a similar problem with this TV.
Anyway a new power supply fixed the TV. I was going to order a replacement LD7536R chip, but I couldn't find one in the US and I didn't want to wait a month for a part I wasn't 100% sure would fix the problem. I was able to buy a new power supply and main board for this TV on eBay for less than $20 shipped. I didn't need the mainboard, but it was cheaper to buy them together than to buy just a used power supply. ...
