Re: Samsung UN58J5190AFXZA pwr supply troubleshooting help
Any other suggestions on what to test to track down the failed component(s) in this power supply? Would love the satisfaction of fixing it "myself" but I guess will have to go buy a new TV if I don't have this solved in the next few weeks. Suggestions appreciated.

Re: Samsung UN58J5190AFXZA pwr supply troubleshooting help
budm and nicholas1110: I have located, desoldered/removed and tested the QP801CS (was screwed to the heatsink).
I have tested with my multimeter in diode mode and below are the results:
Pos on Source (left), Neg on Drain (center) = .544
Pos on Source (left), Neg on Gate (left) = OL
I think this means it is good, right? I was hoping it would be bad, as now I am not sure where to go, any suggestions?

Re: Samsung UN58J5190AFXZA pwr supply troubleshooting help
nicholas1110: Thanks for the instructions. I cannot find “QP801CS”. I do have a QM801CS. I have attached a photo highlighting this component, is this the correct one? I removed the transistor at that location and tested with my multimeter in diode mode. Here are the results:
-Pos lead on left leg, and neg lead on center leg is OL, or no current flow.
-Pos lead on right leg, and neg lead on center leg is starts at .45 and increases to .65 over a 30 sec period.
For clarity the “legs”...

I measured the "main filter cap 120uF 450VDC", circled in red below, and it was 166VDC....Last edited by momo2000; 08-29-2020, 01:26 PM.

Samsung UN58J5190AFXZA pwr supply troubleshooting help
Set stopped working. Doesn't power on and no standby light on the front. I read the forums, and believe it is the power supply board failure. Photos attached, and visual inspection does not reveal an obvious problem (at least to me).
While plugged in, I test the voltage at the connector (CNM803) that goes to the main board. Voltage on 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 is 1.34VDC. 9-10 is of course ground. This test leads me to believe that the PS has failed.
Also research says that model has a high LED failure rate, so am guessing that is what has caused the PS failure. So after I solve...

Re: Vizio e55-c1, Plug in, standby light on, then fade off in 2 sec
Finally had time to do this tonight. I did seat/reseat all cables and checked ground screws. Also pulled the PS to look for fractured solder joints (I have seen these before so believe I would recognize), but I found none. TV still working fine. Pretty hard to fix something if it won't fail so guess I'm going to button it up and let it run and turn it off on when I can, and see if it will fail. Thanks so much to all of you for your suggestions/advice. Really appreciate it. If it fails, I'll repost,...

Re: Vizio e55-c1, Plug in, standby light on, then fade off in 2 sec
UPDATE=>
#1. I took it off the wall and brought it to an area where I could work on it. Plugged it in before I start taking it apart . . . It works perfectly! So I did not do any meter readings. I'm guessing it will tough to fix the problem if it is intermittent. Any suggestions? I'm guessing I just keep turning it on/off once or twice a day and see if I can get it to fail again? Other ideas? I've read bits/pieces about EPROM issues. Any chance it was just "mucked up" and a few days...

Re: Vizio e55-c1, Plug in, standby light on, then fade off in 2 sec
You say the standby light is supposed to act that way. Are you sure? To be clear, I am just plugging in the TV, AND THEN NOT TOUCHING THE TV OR REMOTE, and then the standby light fades off. As I recall it stays on when the TV is powered off (but plugged in), and then turns off when the TV is powered on. Did we have a misunderstanding, or am I incorrect?...Last edited by momo2000; 10-06-2017, 09:12 AM.

Vizio e55-c1, Plug in, standby light on, then fade off in 2 sec
I have a Vizio e55-c1 that is 23 months old. Today I went to power it on, and nothing. Upon further investigation, I notice that the “standby” light was not on. However, I notice that the USB drive that I had plugged into it (to show some pictures) is glowing (the USB drive is one of those that has a light that turns on when you plug into a USB port). Strange. I unplug the TV and plug it back in and here is what happens: The “standby” light comes on, for about 2 seconds, and then fades out and goes off over the following 2 seconds. I tried this repeatedly leaving it unplugged...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Been a while since I've worked on a TV (about 40 years ago) but now have a 55" that went out (only 18 months old), and I replaced it already, but couldn't bear to pitch it, so though it might be fun to see if I can fix, and this looks like the place.
