Have you tried swapping out the hard drive and CD rom?...

If this still doesnt work with new HDD - then you should also try to bench the board with nothing attached, except the RAM, CPU, Keyboard and Screen.

You should also treat the keyboard as suspect incase it is faulty and sending some incorrect signals to the board, so remove it and try to boot the machine again...

please report back with findings if at all possible...

Personally, i would consider the GPU as a last resort and focus more on the obvious ones:

*Swap out HDD for known good HDD and check again
*Use and external or different DVD/CD Rom incase their is a file copying error etc...
*Make sure you machine is compatible with Vista/Win 7 with no known issues (google it!)
*Upgrade BIOS to the latest version, i have seen this cause BSOD's when using older OS's on newer hardware and vice versa.
*Finally, i would check components on board level depending on how...

thanks for the help - i have reflowed the motherboard completely in my IR oven and to no avail....

looks like its a beyond economical repair system in this case as i dont have any spare GPU's sitting around for this

Hi again guys, thought a new thread would be appropriate for a different machine with different problem,

We have a lenovo 3000 N200, seems to be powering on ok however, about 3-5 second after it boots it goes into sleep mode... the same happens with battery in/out or ac in/out or combined.

I have been told this may have something to do with the VGA card, we have swapped out good CPU's RAM' Battery etc... but nothing seems to work.

Just wondering if anyone has come across something like this before...

Hi guys -

I have today recieved a DV6000 (Intel chipset) with the infamous Power but no video signal...
We usually have these in our workshop and for the most part, do the basic tests such as CPU/RAM checks cables external monitor etc... if none of these work then we assume its a GPU reflow which normally works and we have machine up and running in no time, We have 2 infrared machines, one of them uses a Preheater and Upperheater and one is an IR oven.

Have seen this several times before here are the usual suspects:

*Bad LCD Matrix (can be eliminated by trying a different screen/External Monitor will imply but not eliminate)
*Bad LCD to mobo cable (can be implicated if the problem does not occur on external, but can only usually be eliminated by swapping out with a known good cable)
*Bad inverter (can be eliminated by swapping with a known good inverter, try reflowing the inverter if need be, nothing to lose(make sure you are comfortable with hot air...
