It's the original Main Board in there with all the tweaks I did to it. I can't really do any quick tests anymore as the TV is now at the owner's place so he'll have to put up with it for now. Will ponder some more on this.Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS

Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS
Celebrated too soon.
From a cold start, the TV will show vertical noise in blue or green (see pic) and then turn itself off, then back on as if it's trying to fix itself. Around 3 or 4 tries is when a normal picture will come on.
I re-soldered the connections this time on the LVDS & other connectors on the Main Board. Didn't help. I'm wondering if the heat I put to the Chip area was what turned this on?
I also updated the firmware from a usb thumb drive. Oh well....Last edited by Kridian; 05-29-2013, 06:08 PM.

No but that sounds like a good idea. I just did the heat gun for a minute using aluminum tinfoil in a funnel-shape to keep other adjacent parts from getting the heat.

Yeeeaaar!
After going on a hunt through the Badcaps.net forums with people that had similar issues with their Samsungs, I jumped off into a YouTube channel where two of the responses where to Reflow the Main Board.
That did the trick! On the Main Board, I ran a heat gun for 60 seconds on the connectors for the LVDS cable and on the chip with...

Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS
These two stickers were attached to the original Main Board. When doing a search with the bottom number (BN97-02185A), it only directed me to boards with the top number (BN94-01797B). I guess this is what I should be buying yes?
Here's a site that has one but no picture to confirm it. Wonderful. Would you pull the trigger and purchase it? Says it's brand new.

Correct, and no lighting on the panel at all. I made a video of it for what it's worth.
Oh wow. That would be the death knell for this thing.
For the record, according to its little sticker, the new Main Board# is BN97-01985R. The original one is BN97-02185A.Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS

Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS
Hmmm, the instructions on the test panel page didn't say to unplug the Main Board power connector. Just the LVDS. (?)
I was instructed to put the resistors on the power connector leading to the Control (Logic) Board. (?)
I didn't know exactly where all the testing was going. I guess seeing if the new Main Board was still the culprit.
Anyhoot, the new Main Board is back on...

The newer one cannot pass the panel test at all. It also relay-clicks in faster intervals than the original one so I guess it's bad too? Ugh.
Here are the two Main Boards together. They look a little different but they share the same code number.

Hmm, I took off the resistors from the Control Board power connector and just tried to run the panel test and it just clicks away. Panel test fail.
With the original Main Board back on there, this test works so that little nugget is waying on my mind. Do I continue further tests with the original Main Board or the (supposedly) new on...

With the Y-main & X-main boards unplugged, I get a 4.8v read on the Vs post and 0v on the Va post.
Reverse the resistors? I did shift them over to the right which effectively reversed them but not sure if that did anything.Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS

Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS
Oh, sorry about that. In post #25 above the only reason it was clicking was because I forgot to unplug the power connector to the Main Board.
Trying to do the panel test with the X/Y-main plugged in just now resulted in no relay clicking but the screen is black (not on).
Do I take off the resistors for this panel test? What was that for?Last edited by Kridian; 04-21-2013, 05:51 PM.

Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS
Jumpers on, LVDS unplugged from the Control Board and failed to test – just did it's clicking.
I'm wondering if I should put the original Main Board back on and see if that will work? I take it we've eliminated that it was faulty?

Am I connecting this resistor(s) to the white coupling while it is attached? If so, how do you seat the legs of the resistor so they are not so loosey-goosey?Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS
