Is there a way to check it? And if so, how? Anyone?...

First thank you for the help bud.

I used the chassis on the TV the other grounds reads 0 that I checked.

On the red LED+ W/ connector removed reads 116.0V / white still reads 71.4v

I noticed this morning the power supply board is making some noise. I originally suspected the power supply but did not want to just buy parts that are not needed. But the GRD reading and the +24 readings I dont understand either....

A few more pics. The other pics show the connections on the back of the boards....

I re-tested all of those connections and the readings are correct.

I will upload more pictures. I will have to wait till in the morning to take more shots of the back of the boards....

No I dont. I have checked all the voltages on the main board. The connection that has the +24V only reads 13.98 on both connections. I have more pics if needed too....

    started a topic Rca led40g45rq

    Rca led40g45rq

I have an RCA that just decided not to turn on yesterday, worked fine the night before. No blinking light or standby light. So I opened it up to see if the power supply had swollen or leaking caps. They look fine, no signs of anything burnt.

On the power supply I have tested the following

    CON1

    o +12V - 14
    o +12V - 14.05
    o ---
    o |GRD
    o ---
    o +5V - 4.97
    o +5V - 4.97
    o 5VSB - 4.98
    o PSON - 4.57
    o +5V - 4.97
    o No connection
    o No connection
    o No connection
    ...

I think you're right. Upon closer inspection I have found the whole solar panel side connection trace fried. The lightening hit the solar panel. I found after removal of silicon? That 3 more resistors have the tops blown off and one of the EPPROM chips as well. thanks for all the input. From now on a will inspect with a magnifying glass before posting....

[QUOTE=ReverendJones;600444]There are a couple of varistors on the board for over-voltage protection. It is possible one or both are shorted.

How would I test. Also with one pad reading 1.700 ohms and the other 0.00 would that indicate something else being shorted. I'll test the varistors in the morning.I really appreciate all the help. I can order the resistor from digikey, but if I need something else id like to order all at once.Re: Mule 350 Gate Opener

Ok one pad reads 1.700 and the other 0.00 - You check that in ohms? Thats the way I checked. If you look on ReverendJones photo (thanks by the way for the upload!) The pad on the left is reading 0.00.

I'm almost sure this one had no markings, just was not sure due to how burned it was, I almost took one off another board last night just to try but didn't want to risk an easy fix with an expensive replacement....

Original refurbished board showing cap thats blown in yellow box. Only if that pic was hi definition. Others have had the same CAP blow only to have to purchase another board then another in 6 months. Not a path I wanna take at $159 each. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Ok heres a couple of pics I can try to get a few better pics if needed.

The location of the cap was located at R12. It was almost burned in half and completely broke upon removal.

  • Mule 350 Gate Opener

I have a mule 350 gate opener that was hit by lightening. Still was receiving power. Upon jumping the Common and cycle it gave the 3 beeps followed by a two sec. pause then repeat until I turned off the power. That error is a short in the board.

I have inspected the main board and found a blown surface mount ceramic cap. Can not read any numbers on it. I removed it from the board to check if it had any numbers on the bottom but no luck.

I called the company and of course they want me to purchase a refurb for $159! I have mainly only worked with Film caps, Solid...

Hello everyone, I'm so glad I found this forum. Although I have not posted anything, I have already found gold with the wealth of info on your site. Most of what I have needed has been covered at one time or another. My name is William Scott, go by Bill. I am a technician in a small computer store in NW Alabama. I started playing with computers in the early 90s and have never looked back. When something is broke, I want it fixed that simple. I absolutely hate throwing silicon in the landfill! I hope to get a chance to talk...
