Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
Hi,
I think I could try ordering the IC and mosfets on AliExpress. If it doesn't work, it will still be spare parts for another job, maybe.
The board forcing the manually chosen delivery contract, is it a way to bypass the cypress usb c controller when suspecting IC to adapter issues ? It might be useful, at least one day or another. What is it called ? I will order one.
I try to find a USB C port too.
If you think of anything that might be useful, please tell me, It will take at least two to three weeks...

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
In fact, I updated the BIOS first before even opening it up. It means the BIOS is the latest HP published for it

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
I see voltage until lowdrv drain.
And now It starts again, on battery. Unfortunately, now that there is huge resistance between tpca 8120 mosfet pad and E6 GUD...Last edited by johnjohnjohnjohn; 09-14-2022, 10:26 AM.

nope ! even on battery. . .
Maybe it was too big of step to try such a tricky fix so early ?

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
in fact, the resistance between dc usb c drain pad and the dc in mosfet now reaches 450 KOhms. I think the board gave up before I did. I believe resistance increasing suddenly between two pad means inside layer trace going bad

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
0.22V at battery mosfet source, 0.25V at battery mosfet gate
0.22V at ACDET and REGN
11.8 0.14A on my power supply. the board blinks white orange a few times when I put on my power supply. It means it reacts which is good I guess.
While I was finishing this measure, suddenly the voltage dropped. Now, from the tpca 8120 drain pad where I soldered the wire to inject power, to the DC in mosfet drain : the resistance which was before 0, climb seemingly to the infinite.
Power supply showed me only 0.02 A so I cut...

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
so, i swapped it with two others I had on donor boards. Now 12V is allowed through the tpca8120 mosfets
Nothing more, though, still no power.
Just to check, I powered the board on battery with screen plugged in (tricky setup...) The board works like this, but when the battery will be empty, no way to charge it

could BQ24780S be damaged ?

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
12V at dc mosfet drain. its gate receive 0 so the 12V stay there. ACDET is at 3V REGN is at 5.1V

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
now that the tpca s are removed, I have bigger pad to solder an inject wire, I can still try again. What do you think ?

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
yes
4KOhms from pin 4 of bq24780s (ACDRV) to the gates of the two E6 GUD mosfets (DC)
what do you think about the strange behavior the pc had when I injected the 11.8V directly at the G8 VUD drain (this mosfet drain is the next pad where the 11.8V could be found after passing through the two USB DC tpca 8120)Last edited by johnjohnjohnjohn; 09-14-2022, 06:58 AM.

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
4.4KOhms, there is a 4K resistor on the road
OH ! I tried to put back the leacking tcpa8120
the first one smoked and now has a hole in it. The usbc V lines are now shorted
Removed the two tpca 8120, usb c no longer shorted, 5V waiting on the first TPCA drain padsLast edited by johnjohnjohnjohn; 09-14-2022, 06:19 AM.

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
do you think i should try again injecting 11.8V on this mosfet ?

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
there are no other usb c on this board, it's tiny and only has a usb c, a usb a, audio and that's all. there isn't even a video output port.

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
well. I suppose I shouldn't try, the donor board is not using usb c to power on, it has a separate standard Dell jack

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
I must find a suitable replacement for the one tpca8120 that is dead. Of course I found some mosfet of the same size, but only N channel when it need to be P channel

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
I sent him a message. But, hum.. though I'm sure this vélocipède is fast, because big whell-big speed, Piernov lives very far from me, in fact it couldn't be further without leaving the country
I found a new cypress IC (usb c) do you think I should try to swap it or is it just a waste of time ?

I'm going to bed. I'll work on this board tomorrow for sure. Good night, or good day i should say

Re: Troubles with HP pro x2 612 g2
I did not work on the board since we last chatted, las time I lost all voltage battery and dc after replacing hidrv mosfet. I replaced it again today, I mean an hour ago, because i found it shorted, though it wasn't when i soldered it. With the new hidrv mosfet coming from the similar architecture laptop, battery works again, but dc still 5V
