Re: Insignia IS-LCDTV32 white horizontal lines
Replacing the caps is a good place to start. I had an Insignia NS-LCD32 a while back that needed new caps on the mother board and power supply. Most were capXon if I remember correctly.
The symptoms for that set: it would power on and the display would be perfect then after 20-30 minutes of use the tv would shut down completely. Had to cool down to power back on.

Vizio VW42L HDTV10A
Hope you all are doing well! Been in the process of moving, but starting to get everything organized again. I'd appreciate some help with this one...
I have a Vizio VW42L with an AU Optronics panel that powers on with no audio or video or backlight (not even for a brief second).
Output voltages from the power supply:
Power off
5VSB present
Power on
All correct for a brief second then the supply powers off everything except the 5VSB.
Tried
I have two 42" Vizios right now. Both Delta power supplies...Last edited by daimoku; 05-24-2011, 12:58 PM.

Re: Vizio GV42LFHDTV10A no pic, no sound, wont shut off
Yes, F2 is blown. Might want to purchase a couple of fuses in case another component has been damaged (when you replace the fuse, it might blow again).
F2583CT-ND is a suitable replacement as long as the physical dimensions are correct.

Another solution that works well is the Chip-Quik alloy. It stays in a molten state long enough to desolder the 3 legs and tab easily.

Re: Olevia Syntax Brillian 537-B11 tuning itself off + image going blank
Not sure yet. I still need to do some testing to verify the trace is causing the tv to not power on now. Looks like 5V standby is still there. Haven't tested beyond that yet. I'll definitely take some pictures and post them in the next couple days though....

I'd start with checking the power supply output with a DVM and move from there.Re: Pioneer pdp-4280hd

Re: Olevia Syntax Brillian 537-B11 tuning itself off + image going blank
I have an Olevia 237-S11 which uses the same power supply AEP016-37.
The power supply uses a combination of United Chemicon (UC) KY series and Elite caps. Found several high ESR, out of spec Elite caps so I replaced all the Elite caps. Left the UC caps.
Unfortunately, I believe I found the source of my intermittent problem too. In my case, the tv would sometimes run for a day or two and other times just a couple of hours. When it stopped running, it would power off (no sound, no video,...Last edited by daimoku; 05-06-2011, 10:05 AM.

Re: view sonic 3260w
I just got a Viewsonic N3250W the other day someone decided to repair themselves (see the attached image). The power supply is a updated version of the fsp212-3f01, the fsp212-3f02.
Anyhow, notice the stripes which indicate the orientation....

Re: view sonic 3260w
On most boards, manufacturers denote the orientation using a line (or stripe) on the PCB to indicate the cathode side should be oriented towards that stripe.

"a major issue with these supplies is q7, a small surface mount npn transistor. When this puppy goes bad, the supply pulsates, meaning your +5v line may run from 4.0-5.9 and it oscillates back and forth. It also causes I believe c36 to fail as well. Replace this transistor, I use any reasonable npn transistor and u should be fine."

Re: flx-3211b
Replacing the swollen/vented capacitors is good place to start. Please review this thread:

In regards to which capacitors to buy, here's a list of recommended caps:

You can purchase recommended caps from the left side of the main page:

Re: Philips LCD 42PFL5432D/37 no picture, no sound.
Digikey has them:

Be sure to check the dimensions and make sure they match up or are close if you have some wiggle room.Re: Philips LCD 42PFL5432D/37 no pic...ND<br />

Re: Vizio 42" black screen pdp42x3####
Please don't hijack the existing thread. You might want to look into the ebooks by Jestine Yong. They're not overly technical and while not comprehensive, they teach you most of the basics you need to know.
A quick Google search unearthed this document: as an example.Last edited by daimoku; 05-03-2011, 12:31 PM.

Re: Philips LCD 42PFL5432D/37 no picture, no sound.
Those are most likely the cause of your problem then and are definitely a good place to start...
You'll need a soldering iron, solder sucker and rosin-core solder. Purchase low ESR caps (Radioshack does not sell these).
Here's a FAQ on which caps to buy:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2280
Digikey or Mouser are great places to find the caps you need. If you look at the caps on your main board and power supply, you will see they have both a capacitance (uf)...

Re: Vizio GV42LFHDTV10A no pic, no sound, wont shut off
Yes, U33 is an adjustable regulator. Notice the resistors located near the pads that adjust the output voltage. The part you're looking for is Digikey PN: LM1117MP-ADJCT-ND.
First, unplug the tv and let the power dissipate for a few minutes. For fuses, you can usually just check the resistance/continuity. So, set your meter to Ohms. You should see infinite or 0L resistance when the leads aren't touching anything and ~0 Ohms when you touch the leads together.
Now, find the...

Re: Toshiba Satellite L505-S6959
Thought I'd follow up on this...the connector for the microphone was plugged into the wrong jack..that's one of the first times I've seen a connector that wasn't unique on an individual laptop. Luckily, it didn't cause any components to fail and it's back up and running!

Re: Toshiba Satellite L505-S6959
Thanks for confirming that! Now I just have to figure out why it's not at 3.3V... Already checked the ribbon cable for continuity so that brings me back to the motherboard.

Re: AMC1117 Adjustable Voltage Regulator Question
Thanks...I found this in the datasheet, but it doesn't make sense because Vout would always be greater than Vin.
Vout=Vin *(R1 + R2)/R1
This regulator helps power a 588 pin ARM MT5372AJ scaler IC. I have been unable to locate a datasheet for this IC.
The pinout is GND Vout Vin with the tab facing away and the supply comes from a nearby voltage regulator with 3.3V output.
I was getting these voltages from the service manual, but I found out there are two versions of...
