  • Re: Panasonic TC-P42S2

just picked one of these up when I got it; it had 6 blink code, opened up found SC board power & ribbon off, reconnected then got a 7 blink code...
Began to disconnect finally got unit to power up w/ no image w/ the SC to A-board ribbon off and the lower buffer ribbon off...
I'm leaning towards bad A-board but could it be a lower buffer & SC board set both bad..? I dont know how to confirm, downloading manuals now too; thanks for those btw......

I put the other SC board i got in... unit turns on fine now... gotta get it up on the wall or if anyone has a stand for sale or trade let me know...

Ok update: I found a SC board locally for $35 so swapped that in.. while i was at the counter comparing board to make sure its a match since I got one out of a 50inch model -same TNPA3839- I saw a burnt resistor... I dont know how i didnt notice it before since i was unplugging SC20 so much or maybe it just burnt up during testing i dont know...

But R801 is fried; any ideas on the culprit..? I want to guess its that large single transistor on that heat sink or the transformer..? Either way id like to diagnose...

have the unit open and on the stand... then when it begins to act up; turn it off get a car of Air; turn it upside down and "freeze" any really hot or suspect ICs and try to power on again and see if that clears up the issue then you will know the area that will need to be worked in on the circuit board...

  • Re: Universal T-Con Board..?

I want to say that the input wire to/from the T-con that carries the LVDS signal is a universal standard as far as that wire goes...

The question is the 2 output ribbons to the panel to line up to this one; and I want to say that it would only work for panels with 1080p...

or as Tom said maybe its only applicable to Sharp panels; but this is why I threw the question out here because I wonder if anyone has come across this board and tried it on various other models or older CCFL driven panels...
    I think I might...

If this SM IC has more than 10 legs on it; id say use the heat gun or IR solder machine...

Has anyone had any experience with these yet..?

  • Re: VIZIO VX37L HDTV10A has messed up color

Vizio LCD units are well known for panel failures... If there is solid vertical lines more than likely a panel failure... However when I took these panels apart I found that the reason they say its a bad panel is because the display board are soldered to the ribbons of the panel so when there is a IC chip failure on one the render it a panel issue; I believe it can be fixed or in the least those boards swapped off using a low heat gun... otherwise is a wash...

Id like to say it the t-con causing the pink haze... I bet if...

I want to say that if you disconnect the inverter board from the PSU the unit may fire up; since you said the PSU seems to be providing the required voltages...
If I remember right you can disconnect each bulb from the outside of the case to the Inverter board; disconnect all of those first and try to fire it up... if it comes on and you get and image and sound than you know its a bulb backlight issue if it keeps shutting down try disconnecting the inverter board as previously mentioned... if it still turns off most...

i am noticing that my unit is not exactly like the ones used in the service manuals images but certain pages are just for this unit others are just for reference and seem to resemble a 42 inch model since these books cover several model units... Just a lot of information to absorb to try and narrow down one issue; I dont mind it but its funny that in these tech update manuals did anyone notice that panasonic is asking techs if they figured out how to fix certain issues..? i found that rather interesting lol i wonder if there...

  • Re: Panisonic TH-58PX60U On for 2 Second then 7-Blinks

been reading these service procedures and stuff for this unit and I tried the SC board isolation tests...

When I have everything connected except for SC2 on the SC Board and plug the unit in; the procedure says I should get 6 blinks but I get 7 blinks -maybe a typo?- instead... =|

I am going to set my volt meter to max hold and see if the PSU gives off a 15v signal to the SS board like one of the procedures suggests to do...

I did also try during this testing session checking the...

With everything hooked up the screen flickers briefly just before the click that sends the 7 blinks...

With SC20 disconnected there is no flicker or screen activity at all; but unit stays on -fans running- red light and no blink codes...

I dont how the D Board plays into all this but i want to assume its good because the units standby seems to be working; i think... cant really find a test point for it; well at least which board its on...

I can get an SC board locally for a fair...

  • Re: Panisonic TH-58PX60U On for 2 Second then 7-Blinks

Ok figured out what the 11-blinks is; I had the fans out... with the fans back in and sc20 disconnected the unit turns & stays on with a solid red light; testing for voltages R860 TPVSCN & L472 TPVAD still nothing... with sc20 connected at R860 TPVSCN less than a volt +/- & L472 TPVAD -2 volts....

I did read this bit of interesting information from some service packet DL:
    Last line of page 34
"The VSUS is also used to turn on Q527 to generate the VDA"

    then on page 39...

  • Re: Panisonic TH-58PX60U On for 2 Second then 7-Blinks

I most always clip my ground to the the case frame somewhere; then set my meter to beep on Ohms tap heat sinks, screws, empty cap grounds to see if I have good ground source at that board... Only time I test in circuit is when testing a diode or transistor for shorts to ground...

  • Re: Sanyo dp42840 - Power board cycles and relay clicks

I have never really seen back lights themselves go bad maybe once in a laptop from the mid-90s but otherwise the bulbs for the back lighting rarely go bad unless physically broken... But one never knows maybe a large batch of bad bulbs made it into production...

In all honesty if its a backlighting issue and you can actually still see the image when the unit is on; id take the time to try and retro fit some LED low voltage light strips in place of the bulbs add a small dial to regulate brightness done..! LoL I...

Maybe; most electronics allow for up to 5% variable; anything over or under that is ruled out of spec in my book; but could be good/in spec as per build quality... I have seen swollen caps on PSUs and the board still gave fine voltages...

on a side note: id suspect a transistor or transformer failing/failed on the PSU somewhere; pics help...
