Nintendo Switch missing 1.8v
Hello eveyone.
I have a Switch that shows the blue screen upon startup but it sometimes will boot to the first Nintendo logo (once fully, only to bsod after turning off).
The time it booted I was able to get 1.8v on the test pads near the backlight connector and above the MAX77621 right below the NAND/emmc chip.
However, it not showing a bsod is rare and I'm not sure what is causing the rare boot that aren't bsod.
Is it correct that the MAX77620 produces 1.8v across the board or do the two MAX77621 produce it locally?
Basically,...

Re: XBOX One Power Brick Repair
Yeah, caps failing in those bricks is probably the most common failure of the OG/Phat models. So many came to me with the console being bad and it was just the power brick. Honestly, over half the time it was just the brick and almost every time it was the main or out caps.
Nice work and write up.

Re: Vizio D55x-g1 (55" 4K, no backlight, has Audio and picture)
Thank you for the reply! I do have a new update and it's not far off from the issue you linked.
In my case, I just had to clean-up the bit of solder I added in the 2nd row strip. I had inadvertently created a small bridge in the back of the prongs that I missed due to the tiny size of the connector.
So I got the lights up and running, reassembled and...
...womp womp womp. Screen is boned. I was super, super careful. I used suction cups and made sure...

Re: Vizio D55x-g1 (55" 4K, no backlight, has Audio and picture)
Hate to double post (I don't see an edit function via mobile) but a bit more info below. First I'll add a quick TL;DR and then full detils with extra photos:
TLDR:
The LEDs seem to work upon all tests I know how to do. All six strips light up if given 26v from my bench PSU and all individual LEDs test good with a multimeter. Given that there is no LED logic past the cable coming from the Power Board, I assume it means the LEDs are actually good. Then again, I've come across some weird stuff...

Vizio D55x-g1 (55" 4K, no backlight, has Audio and picture)
Hello, everyone. A neighbor was throwing this TV away for "not turning on" so I asked for it and they gave it to me for free since Vizio gave them a new TV under warranty.
I'm pretty proficient with electronics in general but this is the first TV I've ever tried to fix. I strongly suspect bad LED lights but figured I'd post some info and see if those of you more experienced with TVs can confirm my suspicion before I move forward. Some photos and measurements below:
The power supply only has two outputs, one output cable going to the main board and the other...

Hello. Does anyone know what this part is? Thanks....

Re: Palit GTX970 Component ID Assistance - Now Repair Issue
Yeah, it's likely a part pulling too much current due to being shorted or partially shorted. I have only encountered this when the GPU chip itself is bad but that doesn't mean yours is. I've seen some people with this issue have problems with the main voltage regulator and even the phase doublers (if this card has them).
That may provide a place to start looking....

Re: Help with Gigabyte GA-RP55W5 Rev 1.1 motherboard troubleshooting
Sorry for the long delay but I thought I had a line on getting this board in front of me and it turned out to be the wrong model.
If you can safely remove the motherboard you can check for other failure points but without a board in front of me I'm kinda blind, regardless of how many photos you post.
My immediate recommendation is to find your main charging IC. It should be near the DC jack cable into the motherboard. Read the printing on the chips (black squares) and Google them until...

Re: HD7950 missing mosfet
Is there a specific manufacturer for that card? I may know someone with that card but I'd like to be able to give all info available when asking.

Re: Help with Gigabyte GA-RP55W5 Rev 1.1 motherboard troubleshooting
Ok, well we still can't rule out a bad adapter but if another test adapter just isn't obtainable we have to move on. I was hoping to see a hard voltage drop but a lack of voltage drop upon shutdown doesn't have to happen for the adapter to be bad. It's just one sign if it does. Yet, we'll move on.
The next logical place to check is at the charging ICs. Let me see what I can find and get back to you ASAP.

Re: ASUS GTX 1060 Dual 6 GB Missing component
Hello. If those 470uF caps (first image) are anywhere near the crystal it is normal. I believe those are the caps directly under the crystal, right?
On a 10-series GPU the resistance is very low. Something close to 1-2ohm. You want to test for a short on the 12v rail using the power in pins and coils.
So test resistance on all major rails. Fastest way for 12v and 3.3v is PCIE pins and 6/8 pin inputs.
PCIE SLOT: On smallest notch, the first 3 pins are 12v. The 8th pin is 3.3v

Re: Help with Gigabyte GA-RP55W5 Rev 1.1 motherboard troubleshooting
Yes, those large copper circles that look like screw holes (usually are screw holes!) will be ground but the metal housing is also ground so that would be ok, too. Whatever is easier for you while testing.
My guess from the photo alone is that the pins will be in pairs. You'll likely find that the middle two are one (power or ground) and the outside two are the other. The quickest way to know without any power inserted is to test for continuity.
Same idea as when you'll...
