It's not that the IDE controller doesn't work at all, it just doens't work correctly. I can begin a Win2k install and copy the files to the hard disk. When it comes time to restart and begin the 'setup', the screen freezes after displaying half of the Win2k splash screen.
I'm still wondering if the firmware could be hung and not allowing the disk geometry to be read correctly.
I guess i have nothing to lose by attempting to reflash.

I just attempted to recap a board for my sister, and all went well. I double-checked the solder joints with the pocket microscope, and touched up where necessary.
I'm starting to like the convenience of the flux-pen i bought.
Anyway, everything was going fine until.......i tried to install an OS. I began to think there was something wrong with the hard drive so i substituted with a CF-to-IDE adapter. No access.
Reconnecting the hard drive and starting FDISK allowed me to partition the disk. FDISK seemed to see the correct size of the disk 78,xxx MB....
That works! (i assume that the first number should be '192' instead of '912')
I have a BEFSX41 (wired) setup at the router and a WRT54GL (wireless) setup as an access point. The wireless router is setup with IP address changed to 192.168.1.2, and the DHCP server is disabled.
It does wacky things to your network if you have two DHCP servers running at the same time.
The numbers that the wireless router connects with are provided by the BEFSX41. It connects the same...
How exactly are the connections made between the layers of a multilayer circuit board.
Looking at the holes of one of the bad boards, through a microscope almost looks like a rivet was used.
Solder at this failed connection refused to bead at the base. At closer inspection i noticed that the metallic ring around the hole was missing. The connection looked strange in another way; what i first assumed was solder formed itself into a perfect tube inside the resin board.
I've bought from them before. They seem reputable.

I pulled the P5K-SE board out of it's box to see if it looked similar too the blurry pics. The Symbol in the upper LH corner of some the caps looks identical.
