Re: Viewsonic vp171b - Bad Caps?
Thanks again for all the help above guys! I finished replacing the capacitors a couple of days ago, and while it seemed to fix the problem for a little while, it seems to have come back with a vengeance. When I turn the monitor on, it works fine for a couple of minutes and then the backlight shuts off (Heat Related?). If I power cycle the monitor, the backlight will turn on for about 2 seconds and then shut off. If I do this enough times (for about 15 minutes), it will start to stay on, and will work perfectly for hours. I replaced all the...

Re: Viewsonic vp171b - Bad Caps?
Wow! Thanks a lot for the info PCBONEZ, DigiKey is fine by me, so I'll buy from there. I'm an electrical engineering student, so I know about capacitors, but not much about esr and such. This project is right up my alley, so it will be fun to work on. I'll replace the caps and reflow any solder joints that look questionable (although the board looks pretty good) and report back with the results. If that doesn't work I will diagnose further. In that case I may try and see if viewsonic made a service manual for the monitor. Thanks again!

Re: Viewsonic vp171b - Bad Caps?
I actually found this picture of the corner of the board on Google. The board to the left of it with the two purple caps (HERMEI) is the inverter. I have no idea why a larger cap should be installed. Any ideas?...

Re: Viewsonic vp171b - Bad Caps?
I don't have a pic yet, but the series of caps are as follows.
HERMEI LZ series (On the Inverter Board)
2 - 180uF @25v
(Purple with silver writing)
TAICON
17 - 100uF @16v "C0501(M)" Written on side along with (VT)
5 - 470uF @16v "C0513(M)" Written on side along with (VT)
(Both black with white writing)
1 - 1000uF @10v "C0511(M)" Written on side along with (HF)
(Green with white writing)
Hopefully I can get a...

Viewsonic vp171b - Bad Caps?
Hello everyone,
I have a vp171b 17 in LCD monitor that has a problem with the backlight, it randomly turns off. I know it is just the backlight because if I shine a flashlight on it, the image is still there. I took the monitor apart and found a bunch of 100uF caps by taicon and 2 25uF by hermei. None of them or bulged or leaking in any way though. My question is, do you think that the problem could be caused by a bad cap that is shorting out when warm or after it has been in use for a while, or do you think it's something else. On my capacitance tester, it showed most of the caps at around...

Re: Vista compatibilities.
Vista should run fine on that, but i would recommend upgrading to 2GB of RAM, it will really help the speed.

Re: Viewsonic VB50HRTV
Well I ordered some Panasonic FC capacitors to replace the originals, so hopefully that will fix it! Ill make a post once it's finished to let you all know the result.

Viewsonic VB50HRTV
Hello everyone!
I have a Viewsonic VB50HRTV Television tuner that connects to the RGB port on my computer monitor to make it a tv. Lately it's been kind of finicky and I'm wondering if it might be bad caps.
I. The Symptoms
1. When first turned on, it will turn on and then off after about a second. It does this about the first three times I hit the power button, then it will stay on.
2. Once it is on there is no sound and the volume bar is all garbled. It looks like the bar goes past the normal maximum volume. When I hit the volume down key, and the bar...

Re: Antec truepower II 430 Cap. Question
Heres some pictures of the power supply. In the picture of the burnt circuit board, it's kind of hard to see, but the solder is melted around that top right pad in the burnt area so that there is no connection to the diode it's connected to.

Re: Antec truepower II 430 Cap. Question
I agree, but this supply actually got hot enough to melt the solder around a diode, which seems a little excessive to me. I'll probably be buying a seasonic to replace it.

Re: Antec truepower II 430 Cap. Question
Well, it doesn't look like I'm going to be recapping this PS. While I was taking it apart I realized that a section of the circuit board in the center near the transformer was all scorched. I can't believe the power supply was still moderately operational when I took it out! I'll post some pics of the carnage soon.

Which brands do you guys prefer between these, United Chemicon KY or Nichicon PW/HE?

Re: Antec truepower II 430 Cap. Question
Also, for the "10V 4700uF 16x25 --x4," would it be okay to use a vr series cap there, those seem to be the only ones that are the correct size.

Antec truepower II 430 Cap. Question
I have an Antec Truepower II 430 power supply that was supplying an extremely low +5VSB, the only symptoms that it showed was that it would not wake up from standby mode, and it made an annoying high pitched whine. I took it apart and every cap was a Fuhjyyu except the two main Rubycons. All of the small ones in the center of the supply were leaking (47uF,470uF and 1000 uF). I want to replace all of the caps in the supply except the two Rubycons with nichicons (PW series) that I can find fairly easily from Mouser. Do these seem like a good fit?
10V 1000uF 8x20 --x1
25V 470uF...
