Re: Acer Predator GH51M LA-K862P
Hello,
The VCore measures at 2Ohms.
Also when I inject 0.8V at the CPU (I know this is a bad thing to do but wanted to test it out) it does not take more than 1.2A.
Another thing is that I do not have PCH_SPI_CLK on pin 6 of the SPI. It stays at 0V.
Also, the 5th pin of the SPI is 0.1V. It jumps to 3V when I press the power button and immediately drops to 0.1V.
Is a bad PCH a possibility in this case?

Why would the CPU be bad?
Which measuring shows that?
The CPU might indeed be bad as it was taken from another broken laptop but still...

Re: Acer Predator GH51M LA-K862P
CPU Core is present now - about 0.9V.
PLT_RST# is 3.3V
Couldn't find VR_Ready but found some similar ones, which is the one you asked about?
VR_ON - 3.3V
VR_HOT# - 1V
81215_VR_HOT - 1V
VR_PWRGD - 3.3V
VCCCORE_VR_PWRGD - 3.3V

Re: Acer Predator GH51M LA-K862P
Sorry, I might have mislead you.
The laptop is turning on, the fans are spinning but does not POST.
CPU, GPU, Chipset are all heating up.
Should I measure the charger IC anyways?
What is bothering me is that on PU1101, pin 1 is outputting 6V instead of 1V. Is this expected?Last edited by aico60; 03-27-2023, 11:19 AM.

Re: Acer Predator GH51M LA-K862P
Thank you, mon2!
The CPU was replaced today in a repair shop, now it is measuring at 2 Ohms.
However, the laptop is still failing to turn on.
I am not getting DRAM_RESET, it is measuring at only 0.2V.
Also pin 5 on bios chip is about 0.18V.
Once the power button is pressed, it jumps to 3V and drops immediately on 0.18V.
I could not find anything else.

Re: Acer Predator GH51M LA-K862P
Checked across both pins of PR1102 - 0 Ohms.
What do you think about the CPU, would it work if the cpu is swapped with an i7 one?

Re: Acer Predator GH51M LA-K862P
Thank you, guys.
Will check resistance of both pins of PR1102 once I get home.
I am measuring the coil resistance from GND to one of the coil pins.
Since it looks like the CPU (I5-10300H) itself is short, I am thinking of finding a repair shop where they can replace it with the CPU from another board I have. It has I7-10750H.
I checked the CPUs in Intels website and they have the same BGA socket and can work on the same chipset (HM470). Both MBs have the same chipset.
Measuring the CPU coils on the...Last edited by aico60; 03-26-2023, 06:58 AM.

Acer Predator GH51M LA-K862P
Hello Guys,
I recently bought a non-working Acer laptop, motherboard GH51M LA-K862P.
I bought it with the intention to fix it.
Started with measuring some points of the MB.
I am suspecting that either the power supply of the CPU is shorted or the CPU itself is.
I am measuring 0 Ohms on PLZ4,PLZ3, PLZ2, PLZ1, which are for VCC_CORE, as well as PLV2, PLV3, PLV4, PLV13 - NVVDD1 .
The board is turning on with no display.
The GPU coils are measuring about 0.7V but the CPU is measuring at 0.1V.

Re: Asus FA506IV - AL116 no 5V and below
If the APU was shorted, wouldn't it get hot?
I have tried raising the voltage to 1V and the amps to 3A and still can't see any warm components on the thermal cam.

Re: Asus FA506IV - AL116 no 5V and below
The 3.3V must have not been shorted at the moment of testing since the EC did have power.
Based on my measurings, only 1.8V_SUS and 1.2V are shorted.
But when I inject voltage, nothing is getting hot, not even warm. I have tried 0.7V and went up to 1.8A.
Seems really odd to me.

Asus FA506IV - AL116 no 5V and below
Hello Guys,
When I first bought the laptop, I knew that it was been worked on.
When I received it, I saw that there were mosfets missing, however there were 3.3V on the Power button, as well as 5V in the USBs (I have tested with USB lamp). I tried to power it on just to see if the fans would spin. They did not.
The audio chip was heating up, so I removed it (there were still 5V and 3.3V available)
Once I received the Mosfets, audio chips, IC, etc., the 5V rail disappeared, as well as 3.3V and 1.2V. The main rail (19.5V rail is OK).
Haven't measured others...

Re: Acer Nitro 5 motherboard no power (FH52M LA-J891P)
Hello Guys
After some more tries of reflashing the bios, the dramrst is still not apparent .
I have done some measuring on points RH46 and RH47 (attached screenshots).
What I have noticed is that 1.2V is going to the RH46 resistor, however the output is 0.120V. I am not sure if this is expected, as the output side connects to the PCH and it might be drawing the power, not sure. It seems that the voltage is just disappearing after going through the resistor.
Could...

Re: Acer Nitro 5 motherboard no power (FH52M LA-J891P)
Both CPU and PCH are getting slightly hot when I power the laptop on and I am getting the PLT_RST at 3.3V.
I am thinking if a bad EC chip can cause those symptoms, anyone familiar with this?
Also, as I mentioned in my previous update:
Measured some pins of PUG1 (attached screenshot):
pin 1 - 5V
pin 3 - 4.8V
pin 5 - 0V
pin 7 - 0V
pin 8 - 0V
The VCCGT voltage is missing from the CPU, which I believe is for internal graphics, can this affect the dramrst...

Re: Acer Nitro 5 motherboard no power (FH52M LA-J891P)
Hello,
Thanks for the update. I have encountered this post as well, however it looks like it is not BIOS related in my case. I have tried to clean it again but no luck. Still missing DRAMRST.
Could it be related to the PUG1 not powering the mosfet for VCCGT/+VCCSA?

Re: Acer Nitro 5 motherboard no power (FH52M LA-J891P)
Hello,
The laptop is now at the state where it was before I mistakenly shorted it.
It starts spinning the fans and keyboard lights up, but there is no display.
I tried taking some measurements and found out that DRAMRST is only 118 mV with RAM inserted and about the same when RAM is removed, which appears to be odd as per my readings.
The ram is also getting 1.2V, which I have measured too.
Unfortunately, I am not sure where to look for for this issue.
Could someone please...Last edited by aico60; 01-15-2023, 11:46 AM.

Re: Acer Nitro 5 motherboard no power (FH52M LA-J891P)
SRN pin has 0.136V.
As the original design does have PRB34 and PRB35, I will try to replace the IC chip directly. It is a pain to solder and de-solder those little resistors and it will be a lot easier to replace the ic chip itself.
By the way, I just remembered that when I initially found the shorted chip and removed it, after that the resistance on PRB3 and PRB46 (where I was measuring the short, screenshot attached - low_res.png) was low again, about 100 Ohms, which seemed odd.
I injected voltage...

Re: Acer Nitro 5 motherboard no power (FH52M LA-J891P)
PRB32 is about 10k Ohms.
ACOK is 11.6k Ohms to ground.
The charging adapter is about 19.5V.
The IC chip is getting 19.3V on pin 28 (VCC).Last edited by aico60; 01-14-2023, 08:11 AM.
